'Liverpool Crown Court heard how the teen had been "diagnosed with autism". It also heard "unwilling to leave the house and communicate with family for a period of time". He was remanded to youth detention accommodation and will next appear in court in October'

UK mortgage repossessions hit five-year high
Mortgage repossession claims have reached their highest level in five years, as households struggle to handle the impact of high interest rates.

New government data shows that mortgage possession claims increased by 34%, year-on-year, in the second quarter of 2024 – up from 3,991 to 5,343.

Mortgage possession claims occur when banks or lenders take homeowners to court before repossessing their home.

The jump follows the increase in UK interest rates to a 16-year high of 5.25% last summer, where they remained until being trimmed to 5% this month.

The Ministry of Justice says:

Both mortgage and landlord possessions actions have continued to rise in the current quarter. Mortgage claims have reached their highest volume since Q2 2019 and are now close to pre-Covid volumes.
However, repossessions are still sharply below their peak after the 2008 financial crisis – they hit 26,419 in April to June 2009, as global turmoil led to many families losing their homes.

The MoJ also reports that warrants – which allow a mortgage lender to regain possession of a property from a homeowner or tenant – are up 9% year-on-year, while repossessions by county court bailiffs jumped 29% from 660 to 854.

Something very ugly is happening out there in the streets of Blighty! You simply can't roll back the clock to the pre exploring days of Vasco da Gama, or to colonizer Columbus's times when Nations were narrow minded and incestuous! The free movement of people was seen as progressive then to widen ones horizons, experience different customs, try new tastes of food and drink and bring home the best the world can offer. We now undoubtably enjoy the best of all worlds! We seem to have embraced all the physical aspects, except the unseen matters of the mind (religion) Why-o-why can't we live together in the very world we created! Times and objectives have changed, but the transition to the equalization of race and human endeavour must call for comprise, to ensure a civil road to world citizenship! Civilization is now universal but still needs to be extended without conflict!

Time of plenty...have to agree with that Douglas Murray points out in an article today that benefits claimants in areas of high immigration have risen exponentially in the last 20yrs. Labour shortage? What labour shortage?

Protests and civil unrest will get worse if we have a full blown recession.
It looks possible here and in the USA.

We have talked about labour shortages and those working demand to be allowed to work from home, walk the dog, collect kids from school.
People retiring years too early.
Roads gridlocked 7 days per week, no one attends work anymore.
A time of plenty. Never had it so good.

All that will come to a grinding halt when unemployment becomes a serious issue as it has been in the past layoffs begin.

We re a poorer country now and the old tricks of HMG spending and ultra low interest rates cannot be used.

Get ready for unrest if this happens.

It is Biblical, seven years of fat must be followed by seven years of famine.

On the other hand I suppose its possible that apart from the far extreme right the right are the silent majority, the left have always been the more likely to actively protest about anything and everything so it it possible I suppose that the status quo continues which to my mind is a shame

I suppose one can choose to believe its propaganda or one can choose to believe that the majority are of the belief that continued immigration is desirable. If its the latter then the Britain that I loved as a child and would have been prepared to fight to defend no longer exists.

Watching one of the protests on the news I saw one protestor carrying a placard saying "IMMIGRATION BUILT THIS NATION!"

Seems to me that immigration is destroying this nation.
