24/9/2021 17:47 | "The Taliban's notorious former head of religious police has said extreme punishments such as executions and amputations will resume in Afghanistan. Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, now in charge of prisons, told AP News amputations were "necessary for security". He said these punishments may not be meted out in public, as they were under previous Taliban rule in the 1990s" -------------------- Bet they don't have problems with roadblocks. | mikemichael2

24/9/2021 16:28 | lefrene Im not a conspiracy theorists but I seem to keep meeting a growing number who are. I have to say I could be coming round to agree with them that Russia and/or China could have some involvement with the climate protesters - either directly/financially or support role or provocateur. It would certainly seem to be having a very beneficial effect and causing chaos in our country. They must be as surprised as the Taliban were at how easy it has all become to dictate terms to and cause disruption in western states concerned more with ideology than economic security and other practical issues And fatty and co have only just started with their energy madness. Winter of Discontent may be a term they will apply to Q2 of the 21st century | scruff1

24/9/2021 16:08 | The HGV driver shortage has been looming for a decade, it's mainly down to cost savings by the companies that need drivers. They don't want the cost of training drivers, or the long term costs of proper employment contracts, so they hire them via agencies. It is quite common to go into a large transport depot and find 30% are on a casual agency basis. The drivers have been too cheap for too long and consequently get treated like a disposable commodity. There has been no forward planning by these companies, they got hooked on just picking up a phone and getting a driver whenever they wanted one. Well now finally it's caught up with them. However no one seems to be looking at how the available drivers are being used, for instance why are we transporting water around the country? The stuff comes out of taps, switch those transporting water, to other tasks until the shortage abates. Also when you see a Royal Mail artic there's at least a 1 in 4 chance that the thing is empty, RM are truly dreadful at making efficient use of their trucks, since their focus is on running a set timetable, regardless of wasted capacity. There will be other solutions to alleviating this temporary problem, but your government won't be bothered, too grubby, won't be a vote winner. I have the sense of being a lab rat in a nasty experiment in which a deceiving government gradual tightens the rack, presumably to divert my attention from what their real plans are, and to grasp more power over the rank and file. Sadly it's working, just look at all those wearing masks, they actually believe that they are in a deadly pandemic! | lefrene
24/9/2021 16:02 | MM2, you are hardly incorrect. But I chop psychos. It’s what’s on the tin! | psychochopper
24/9/2021 16:00 | Drivers being obstructed shouldnt need to take the law into their own hands. We employ police and judges (and Home Secretaries)to enforce the law. The biq question is Why are they not doing so?? Nobody I have talked to understands why this is not happening and why disrupters are given a free hand. Why do they have to keep asking judges to decide whether they can enforce the law. The country really does need a government to get a bloody grip. At the moment we may as well be back in the bloody EU if we are not going to be in control of our own country | scruff1
