31/3/2020 11:10 | Several very old medicines are being reviewed for effectiveness against the new virus. A six month trial with some 4,000 health workers in hospitals across Australia will be administered the BCG vaccine. An anti-tuberculous vaccine that was given to thousands of British schoolchildren in the past. (The Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) jab was developed a century ago to increase immunity to TB — a bacterial lung infection). I am sure many here remember it. I wonder how long the original vaccination is effective? | alphorn

31/3/2020 10:37 | Some things don't make the headlines, like the academic report which estimate hat even the worst posssible effects of the virus will be just noise (that is, within the normal error measurement) in the annual death statistics. Neither is the number of deaths of those on deaths door published in the covid death stats. The deaths are purely alamist and not put into context, like publishing alongside those who die today not fron covid, or those who die in car crashes or from cancer. Seeing '300 COVID DEATHS TODAY!!!!' is alarmist when it's not written that 299 of them would have unfortunately died anyway in the next month or so. It solicits an illogical emotional reaction in most, and that is the methods of unsavoury characters like Blair (why Boris too is effin disappointing) There are more than 500,000 deaths in england and wales pa, that's 1500 per day - that's more per day than the total uk covid deaths so far. And most of the covid deaths would have been included in the daily deaths soon covid or no covid. My view is those not in a high risk group could have carried on perfectly as normal, working, clubbing, shagging, and the effects of those not at high risk would have been like quite a severe flu epidemic (i.e. more than normal off sick due to the flu - and this just this year while the virus is new and there's no herd immunity this year). But, everything would be pretty much as normal (except for the vulnerable who probably would isolate themselves). | pierre oreilly
