NUS lol...the archangel avitars of the looney Universities system challenged only by the president of the British Medical Association and perhaps Justin Welby for the title 'Grand Master of Wokedom' oh & Minny of course...goes without saying lol.

Looking forward to smashing the frogs this afternoon in the Rugby...game of the tournament I suspect.

Oh, the nus, that brings back memories. Jack straw was an ex nus president, I got summoned to lunch with him. Problem was, I only went to my pigeon hole rarely, and didn't get the invite, or order, until a couple of days after the lunch. Missed out on an expensive freeby there. I stood up the mighty jack, unintentionally, and I regret not meeting him. We'd recently told the nus to eff off and the uni student body left. Left wing maniacs at the time, and probably still. Great training for jack as we all know how he got on.

Min, you are quoting the NUS. I know it’s past your passing-out time, but you must have taken leave of your senses. You know (maybe you don’t?) the NUS doesn’t engage in logic or truth, right? In fact, an NUS rep. would risk expulsion for even trying. (and personal hygiene is also unwelcome).

Why Lloyds should buy rental property giant Grainger

Lloyds is in a bit of jam.

Interest rates are super low, Brits won’t pay for current accounts and the economy is hardly rosy. And, unlike Barclays, it doesn’t have an investment banking franchise to offset tougher times for personal and business banking.

So it was good to see some lateral thinking going on with its new plan to branch into the rental property game.

Not only would this give Lloyds a healthy new revenue stream, but Britain is crying out for more rental properties and the sector needs capital to provide it.

More’s to the point, big, professional landlords with reputations to worry about are likely to be better for tenants than the sometimes ragtag army of buy-to-letters who dominate the market now.

Lloyds is calling its plan Project Generation and wants to use its clout and expertise built up through its Halifax mortgage brand to buy and rent out new and existing housing stock.

It already has links with the big housebuilders through its commercial banking business, but rather than slowly grow a portfolio of rental businesses as properties come on the market, why not be bolder and do it through M&A?

Lloyds should buy Grainger, a cracking good business with a terrific management team and the biggest stock market quoted portfolio of private rented flats in the UK.

Currently valued at £1.8 billion — 6% less than its net asset value— it’s uniquely placed to benefit from the huge demand for rental homes and shortage of supply.

Rent collection is running at 98% despite the Covid economic crisis with like for like growth ticking up nicely at 2.4%. London has been slowing for it somewhat but that is due to lockdowns rather than anything more fundamental.

Lloyds has shown it’s not scared of acquisitions in recent years.

Let’s cap that with a big one that will let Project Generation really help generation rent.

Stan, good evening. I cant make any contribution to the Scottish conundrum other than to voice my displeasure from the sidelines. I'd suggest the problem is a little more disproportionate than teenager's & thickos, which in even the most disengaged societies would account for no more than 30% of the vote tops. The majority of Scottish voters are inherently dishonest & disingenuous imo. Sure there are pockets of brilliant pro union people like Aberdeen but most Scots imo are like the EU.. happiest milking the rest of the UK for all it can.

Merv, this whole scenario hasn't happened overnight has it? Perhaps the EU should have considered the implications of their actions. I repeat remainers need to understand that the UK's relationship with the EU has changed irreparably & the IK's priorities no longer lay within the EU. I'm positive the UK will continue to contribute to the development of non national youngsters it's just that they wont be European because that is no longer our focus.
