maybe it was a buyback, but that's all we can afford after we lost all that money in sub prime mortgages.

I suspect he also does quite nicely out of the propery assets he buys from the companies he's invested in from time to time.

I've had some successes following him, but you have to pick and choose. Sometimes he invests in things that are just too dreadful to contemplate.

It's hard to see what his strategy is these days though. He used to break things up and sell off the parts, these days he just seems to sit on things or tries to develop businesses which I don't think is really his forte.

As for Leeds he bought much of his stake for 14p from Equitable Life and has had a 5p capital repayment since then and I think at least one dividend of a penny. I think they intend to sit on this until they've bought back shares up to Claesson's 29.99% limit which means a couple of million more before anything much happens.

How does PG do so well overall as it never appears obvious in the investments he makes ? Most of the ones he has appeared in over the years have been rapidly declining and some have had assets but I rarely see a return for most investors. Has he had some great success that I missed ?

I know the feeling Diviner. I have an investment in both. It makes you wonder what PG's up to. He's taking virtually nothing out of Leeds.

For most of my shares it has been an excellent year. (I needed it because 2007 was really bad).

Looking at my portfolio I can see only two plops and these are both controlled by PG.

LDSG and DSN.

Both have the potential to improve, neither pays a dividend and both tend to lock you into loses as they slowly decline or they just sit there and vegetate.

TD,

Header updated. Not exactly arduous to keep it up to date :-)

As usual it looks like the company have stepped off the bid for the Close Period hence the drop on the 25k sell. Then it looks like you bought another 25k taking us back up to level. I suspect it will drift on any further sells prior to the interims in mid December without the company to support the price.

Des,

I do not know if you are still keeping this up but I have bought back a few. (I do not know why, probably out of habbit).

I am now back to around 50,000. (I also bought 10,000 in my son's account).

Regards,
TD

At the moment the Swedes aren't taking anything out of this company so they must have plans at some stage to try to get a return on their investment. Also their shares are currently being used as security on the Swede's bank debt.

I think Claesson's average price particularly is a lot higher than 14.5p so I think they're focussing on capital gain rather than taking cash out as income so I don't think there's much chance of a dividend anytime soon.

I left work and i've got a new job starting on Monday. I guess it worked out well enough, I got the summer off and a pay rise at the end of it.

bracke,

If he stops at 29.99% then the share price will drift on any sales without the company on the bid. But once 29.99% is achieved it is logical to either make a full bid or actively start trying to sell assets and return cash. There is no point in continuing forever in it's current form once JC has achieved his goal.

IMO, DYOR

Thank you for your posts.

What happens if JC decides to stop at 29.99%?

Arthur,

Sure, I'm thinking (dreaming) at least a year ahead before any attempt to sell Hemmers. The Chinese must be the prospective buyers of Hemmers and DWSN over the long term one would hope.

What do you think of JQV ?

Hope the job is a bit better.

I don't reckon they'll sell Hemmers until conditions improve. On the bright side I don't think Hemmers will go bust either as Leeds have cash to support it if necessary. We might get lucky and perhaps a competitor or two will go under.

Hopefully the Swedes won't make any more investments with our cash unless they're complimentary to Hemmers.

Dawsons I can see kind of struggling on in Limbo for years, hamstrung by that huge pension fund.

JC will then own 29.99% of the Voting Rights. Any subsequent buyback will then take him over 30% and he would have to make an offer for the whole company. Either that or try to get special discompensation from the powers that be to hold more than 30% which would be highly unlikely to succeed IMO.

So, we wait for this number to be bought back and then hope for some "outer" which benefits all shareholders and not just the main two.

It is getting harder and harder to buy back shares so my money is on some form of corporate action before then. Hopefully a sale of Hemmers and some form of cash return. But I'm probably living in lala land...

What is envisaged when the remaining 2.65 million are purchased?

I know this is a basic question but I would like to be clear on what is definite and what is expectation/hope.
