30/10/2015 08:16 | Down everyday this week, this is not looking attractive. | oneillshaun
26/10/2015 15:45 | I really think most will just migrate to the nearest bookie. You need a paradigm shift to stop people betting at stores, most small time gamblers love the daily visit to the bookies, I can't see revenue being hit much at all. More like cost savings will be huge for Lad and Coral, staff and shop costs will save a fortune. Ladbrokes are now pushing the digital model in shops, can only be good for growth as word will spread with punters doing the marketing to mates, look at this mate, its so easy now. In UK Retail, we have launched our multi-channel (One Ladbrokes) offer nationwide in late August following successful regional trials. We are focused on growing digital actives through the combination of digital and OTC oriented technology products, such as our bet slip tracker app, the Grid loyalty card and targeted retail staff incentivisation and training. We have already recorded over 320,000 checks on Bet Slip Tracker and generated new digital Sportsbook and Gaming actives of over 20,000 which we assess are worth more than digital accounts generated through other channels, achieved at significantly lower cost of acquisition. On SSBTs, we rolled out a further 1,350 SSBTs across the UK estate in Q3 and will complete our deployment plans during Q4 giving us an overall SSBT estate of over 6,500. SSBT staking represented c.5% of overall OTC staking (Q3 2014: c.2%), predominantly on football. In addition, SSBTs allow customers to bet in-play thereby aligning our retail offer with services our digital customers already enjoy. We continue to invest some margin in delivering value offers to our customers in key sports through Best Odds Guaranteed and Happy Hour. We have also begun to increase UK Retail marketing, with a focus on TV and call to action offers, to drive footfall over the medium-term with a particular focus on football where OTC stakes have grown 17.5% year on year in the English football season so far. | celeritas
26/10/2015 15:26 | It's the way the industry is going imo - consolidate or outsized by bigger entities. Betfair with Paddy Power, Ladbrokes and Corals - leaves William Hill all lonely and weak imo and on the back foot. The synergies in the boards are also important imo, both have strengths and weaknesses, just keep the strong to cross-manage, which seems to be what will happen imo. CR | cockneyrebel
26/10/2015 15:20 | Celeritas - most people that gamble will use 4 to 5 sites this is true when they use shops but shops are i understand are 2 - 3, so i see it as the punter will spend less when the companies become once so it can hit revenues. | oneillshaun
26/10/2015 14:05 | Problem? I don't see it as a problem, cost saving synergies are marked down as £65m per year. It's pointless having shops just doors from each other, customers will most likely migrate to the open. People who visit the shops are ingrained, think about it, going for a walk to the betting shop is a norm for many people, these people will probably never use digital. | celeritas
26/10/2015 13:52 | Celeritas - But the problem i see is that the customer base crossover will be huge both online and in the shops. | oneillshaun
26/10/2015 13:10 | Must be massive cost saving synergies here right across the board. Bricks and mortar outlets will be quick to close branches, in a town near me there's a Coral and Ladbrokes 3 doors from each other. The Ladbrokes is much the better shop so I expect that'll stay. This will go on right across the country. With the issue being the amount of shops both companies have, Ladbrokes with 2100 and Gala 1845 it seems a red herring to say shops will have to close. To me having shops very near each other makes it obvious the merged companies will close shops and not because of competition rules forcing it but by cost saving synergies. Savings should amount to £65m per year. | celeritas
26/10/2015 13:06 | Should clear the way for a merger. | celeritas

22/10/2015 09:49 | Ladbrokes makes progress on recovery plan 08:07 22 Oct 2015 There was a 17.5% rise in the number of bets staked so far this season Ladbrokes makes progress on recovery plan The digital business grew, with revenue up 6.4% overall Ladbrokes’ (LON:LAD) profits more than halved in its latest quarter but the bookmaker claimed progress was made on its recovery plan. Several high-profile football results went in Ladbrokes’ favour, chief executive Jim Mullen said, offsetting unfavourable horse racing outcomes. There was a 17.5% rise in the number of bets staked so far this season compared to last year. Even so, a poor quarter had been flagged by the bookie with its interims in August and underlying profits [EBITDA] for the three months to September dropped 57% to £14.3mln. Increased machine gaming duty and point of consumption tax as well as an increase in marketing costs were blamed for the drop. An unusually strong third quarter in 2014, due to favourable results in the Fifa World Cup, also skewed comparisons. Revenues were down 0.7% in the quarter but, with the benefit of the tournament removed, rose 2%. The digital business grew, with revenue up 6.4% overall and 10.5% excluding the World Cup anomaly. An 11.5% rise in gaming growth and a 26.3% hike in the Australian business drove the gain in digital revenue. Mullen said: “It is early in our journey, but today's results reflect positive initial progress and customer traction with continued increases in staking and actives across digital and improved staking trends in UK Retail driven by football and racing.” Ladbrokes is merging with Gala Coral but there was no further news the tie-up with both companies engaged with the Competition and Markets Authority.
