Essential. Why would they , B&Q stores are way too big for the current market requirements. The rent and rates together with the staff requirements must be hurting add to that the fall in sales, it’s torture. 5 year plan seems to be one size fits all and that won’t work. Kingfisher operates in different countries and therefore requires different marketing stock and stores . Screwfix is the only part holding Kingfisher together I am not holding KGF

In the last 12 months cash balances have reduced by £551, that's astounding. Best hope is one of the US giants come knocking at some point.

16 August I stated Kingfisher continues to say all is good and she is on plan. Is the plan to waste the cash at hand buying shares back. How much has the company actually lost in pursuing this lost cause. That cash should be held in the account for rainy days. If all is well then why is the share price going down (7 year lows) Why is France going down Why is B&Q not transformed I think investors willl be questioning this 5 year plan as should the management

Mentioned previously I found a couple of last year's conference calls unconvincing. What happens to profitability when the next recession strikes?.

Interesting to see what the cash position is on the H1 next week. Looking very ugly share price wise atm.

As predicted (see above) Homebase’s problems have not helped Kingfisher. Although a rosy picture was presented in the latest results , it seems analysts could see through it and the share price dropped accordingly. Kingfisher continues to say all is good and she is on plan. I hope so for the holders

sicker. It’s not normal for me to find such service from the big companies. I was pleased with Screwfix that I had to post that. I’ve been in and out of KGF for over 1.5 years . Very happy with the performance of Screwfix and dissatisfied with B&Q . I don’t think Homebase’s problems will help Kingfisher Not holding now.

Today I had a delivery from Screwfix (a palet of paving stones). Ordering online could not have been simpler, I phoned the number on confirmation mail to get an update on delivery and a human been in U.K. answered on the first ring. They checked with the carrier and called back in 5 minutes . Then the company they source from called me to say when the delivery will be made. Then the carrier called to say it would be delivered before 4PM. When the delivery was not made by 4pm I called the company they source from and they arranged for a special delivery on a van from Ipswich. This is what I call service. Thank you Screwfix

Homebase sold for a nominal amount. Likely store closures, with KGF perhaps a main beneficiary.

Ed. That is an excellent idea. Big shed stores are over yes dump B&Q name . Bunnings had the right idea to change the name Homebase. I have tried B&Q stores and never liked service ,price or location. Screwfix on the other hand has excellent service, price and locations .

Whatsup32. Yes, I now agree they should never have done any buybacks. I confess that in the early days I thought it ok, but the continuing decline in trading has changed the picture for me. EI, activist investor? Hmmm .... Spin off of Screwfix? Not the way to go, for me, because the B&Q/Castorama problems would remain. Fwiw, I view the "ONE Kingfisher" plan as too little and bigged up. It should have been going on, anyway, and the costs should not have been recorded as exceptionals. They need to constantly make changes for the efficiency of the business because their competitors certainly will be. If I were CEO, I'd bite the bullet sooner, exit the big retail stores more quickly. When down to a smaller number (retaining the ones in key locations), I'd dump the B&Q name, rebrand to "Screwfix" and give the same Screwfix pricing in the remaining retail sheds. This rebranding and unification of product ranges would lower marketing and operating costs (like another stage of ONE Kingfisher) and they'd leverage Screwfix's success with online/click and collect into the retail shed subsector. At the moment, sadly, management are not being bold enough.

There may be an outside possibility of an activist investor getting involved and perhaps pushing for a Screwfix spin off? - just a thought.

Ed. They should not have done any buy backs never mind continuing. B&Q stores like M&S stores are too big for purpose. Wickes does a better job. Homebase maybe doing a come back with dowry money. Future does not look bright

Hi Ed, just wonder if the market is seeing longer term?, Possibly. Yes you have weather related, and the One KGF disruption, even so Castorama looks bleak. They now have a good chunk of unified range, and I assume some investment in lower prices (as per plan)- where is the subsequent sales uplift? ..

Agree, EssentialInvestor. The share price is holding up better than I'd expected too on reading this update. Some of this poor update will be due to the weather, but there is an continuing, underlying decline in B and Q and Castorama. B&Q and Castorama profit must be poor in H1, due to operational gearing. Imv, they should not be doing the share buybacks. Look at the cashflow statement for the last full year. The buybacks are only delaying the eventual share price fall, imo. Maybe that's what the shorters are onto? (Apologies to holders and, before anyone asks, I've not short sold them. Just watching.)

Those with a short position got hurt on marks and Spencer’s today. If the results are half decent they may need to cover. Good luck tomorrow if you’re a holder
