Question to those in the know: Assuming we get some form of Labour /SNP /LIB Dem coalition(Labours best chance of power) I assume it means the SNP/Lib Dems will basically hold the casting vote on most matters. In addition we will have a second Scottish referendum, a second 'brexit' vote (maybe more if they don't like the results) and no doubt a further general election when the Scottish leave the Union. Is this correct?

YouGov just updated - CON 302 seats - that would equal LAB/SNP minority.

Must be dreaming, but apparently not!.

Well never look at those tbh, just added a small amount under 312,
if it's Labour in government then under £3, at a guess only!.

I also see HSBC have reiterated their BUY rec with a 440p target! Quite a way away now!

lol, thought the very same yesterday!.

However it's an EPS boosting measure longer term, well supposedly.

Hi Ed, still have it on a watchlist.

It came close to your buy territory, EI.

Unexpected (by me) uptick today.

Shorts increased with the 24 May update. Notified level reached a year high, but only 2.18%. Maybe today's rise was some closing?

Also, good UK construction figures out.

Also, stochastics had reached a year low - so, technical bounce is another possibility.

None of this improves the French situation, though. That's the thing holding back KGF.

A well executed omnichannel strategy is key imv

In the UK how KGF have grown Screwfix employing this method is a good example,
very different product segment clearly.

I like contra plays, bought a small amount of WG. this AM
and holding BLND post results, BLND very unloved!.

If we do get a Summer swoon in wider markets may again buy a few KGF,
the share price would need to be sub 3.20 though, which may not happen.

Don't get me wrong, Ed, we haven't been invested in KGF all that time...prefer to swing trade. However, its a pretty rubbish performance when one considers the share price was about 621p in 1999. Is DIY such an ex-growth sector?

EI, I think you've got KGF in perspective and its only the outside bid possibility that kept me holding on Monday when it touched 369.8p. Our average is currently 326.25p so still in profit but, I suspect, not for long once the market wide correction takes hold.

Recent trend in KGF's France lfl ...

Q3 2017 -3.6%
Q4 2017 -4.0%
Q1 2018 -5.5%

Should they be buying back their own shares? That cash could be put to work in turning around the French operation. If they are consistently losing market share they have to do something and that 'something' will cost.

Pat, what is concerning is in France they invested heavily in
the store estate over the last decade.

France was held up as an example to the rest of the group not too
long ago.

As mentioned previously I began to have some doubts on strategy listening to
the last conference call, the answers did not appear adequate
to me from the BOD.

There is an outside bid possibility.

Ta, EI. If they could have matched the French market, I'd still be holding. My expectation had been for KGF to gain from a pick up in the French economy and from the expansion of Screwfix and Poland. Will keep watching but needs the dust to settle on this news.

Hi Nasdaqpat. 17 years is a long time. For me, it doesn't need to do well long term. (Although, obviously I hope it goes well for all those connected with it.) I just try to time things to make a little money.

When is this company ever going to do well again...it has been in decline for about 17 years now!

Good call Ed, if/when the UK ultimately slows this may look ugly, just IMV.

Sold out at the bell.

Could have got 20p per share more a couple of days ago. Had thought the recent run up in share price was hinting at a strong update. Wrong!!!

There is something amiss in Castorama and Brico. Together they underperformed the local market by 4.5%. I've read that they are suffering from price competition, trying to hold up their prices with the result that some customers are buying elsewhere. Kingfisher may need to bite the bullet, but the fall in margin would, of course, hit profits.

So, France continues to nullify the good performances elsewhere.

Hmmmm ...

Q1 trading update is out today. For me, the standout is how poorly France has performed. Lfl is worse than analysts' full year predictions. I doubt they can pull this back over the next 3 quarters.

I'd say the share price goes down today.

Ed, just looking at the numbers they are buying back here daily,
would think KGF may be trading lower down if not for the buy back.

Had another small amount today at 3.19.

Hi Ed, it's a very modest holding for me, was not overly impressed
with the conference call.

2.60 ?, it's possible, however that looks more like a wider bear market,
or severe market correction level to me, unless there was some very poor
news on KGF trading. Or Le Pen is elected!.
