DJ Keller Group PLC Doc re exceptional charge For immediate release 30 July 2014 Keller Group plc ("Keller" or the "Group") Keller Group plc announces that it is to make a GBP30 million exceptional charge in its 2014 half year results in respect of a dispute arising on a project that Keller's UK subsidiary, Keller Limited, completed in 2008. The dispute relates to purported defects in a floor slab at a warehouse for which Keller Limited undertook the design and construction of the piling. These purported defects are alleged by other parties to be due, in part at least, to deficiencies in the provision of Keller's services. The claims intimated against Keller Limited, which are currently the subject of litigation, are denied and being vigorously defended. However, the Board has determined that, given the uncertainties inherent in any litigation, it would be appropriate to record an exceptional charge of GBP30 million in the Group's 2014 half year results. The amount is stated before taking account of recoveries under applicable insurances which are yet to be agreed, as these cannot be recognised under IFRS. The Group will update the market on future developments when necessary.

A site I use suggests 80p for next year and 91p for the following year. Therefore forward multiples of 12x and 10.7x. so this is cheap and explains why the shares touched within a whisker of 1300p. Unless you anticipate a sharp cyclical downturn in earnings then I think you can safely keep these on the add/buy list.

I bought in on this one at 930p...currently on a 13PE ratio based on the 73p eps published on 3rd March.Anyone knows what the expected eps would be for 2014?Seems cheap with also a decent divi

Quiet but worth noting that Keller went ex-div on Wednesday for 16p and the price has not suffered further. Steve.

I'm glad I seem to have generated a debate - it's good to feel that I'm not alone in thinking about Keller. Anyway, the exchange rate - I agree a temporary problem, but also money does not need to be repatriated immediately - most of the investment opportunities do seem to outside the UK, so it may just be a paper exercise on short term earnings which will reverse itself in say 6 months when Carney starts raising the bank rate.

That's my thinking meijiman, currencies will mean a hit to earnings, but as you say these things revert over time. The underlying business is sound and growing and that's what I'm buying for - the currency factor means there may be a buying opportunity. Steve.

Yes that's true but in Keller's case its more about the arithmetic expression of earnings in say dollars back into sterling. It will be negative this year due to sterling strength. But its not as though they are a big exporter -which is why the impact on say Renishaw is more greater as its impacts on their margins. Anyway currencies easily revert -particularly the cable rate.

Very high exposure to USD and the rate moving steadily against them profits will take a hit this year.

I thought the same, Huttonr, and have started buying a few below £10 and will be adding. The only concern I have really is the effect of the strong pound on Keller's overseas earnings. I think there is likely to be a IMS tomorrow, so we will not have long to wait and see! Cheers, Steve.

I used to think that I understood the actions of the Keller share price - but considering the last few months, I have concluded that I have made another mistake. I'm wondering about buying a few more as this price trend seems to be getting rather silly - or I'm missing something? Generally the world is on an uptrend, infrastructure work will be increasing, Keller seem to be in the right places and have the reputation to succeed but .... a continued downward trend?
