Toffeeman, I bought in two tranches: 2007 @ 75p and (mid) 2008 @ 43p Not a stellar performance by any means but, as above, I am happy with my present returns. With hindsight, the big buying opportunity was Nov 2008 (circa 11/12p!). At 99.75p, the present yield is 6.02%.

Arf - then I close my short Sep, question: is has it given you a good return over 10 years?

Yes, bought mine circa 10 years ago

Toffeeman, what if the price goes up to 120 and then keeps going up? I'm wondering if the recent price rise is due to a bit of news leaking out.

I am on a yield of 6.7% - you must have bought your shares many years ago Septimus! 100 will be tough to crack methinks If we get back to 120 I will hold my stock and also short via a spreadbet.

HL website: Peel Hunt 24/08/17 Reiterates Buy 150.00p Despite shareprice fall away in Nov/Dec 16, KCOM has been one of my least troublesome stocks. Steady 10% yield, against my original purchase price.

I'd have thought the Carillion and Provident experience would make people a lot more cautious of high yield stocks. Arf's explanation seems more likely to me - something's up.

There was not a lot of cash rescued from investments in CLLN or PFG. I am just happy that my small investment here is showing signs of doing more than providing an excellent dividend from a bombed out share price.

I would have thought that a share price higher now than at any time in the last eight months was a hint that something's up. Maybe there's an unreported buy in the pipeline.

Thanks for explaining about the rising part Lord Gnome, it makes more sense now.

Ha! I'll settle for anywhere north of £1 for now. Who needs a Golden Cross. Seriously though, KCOM does seem to have turned a corner and the share price looks a lot stronger than of late.

Doesn't look like there will be a Golden Cross. This requires both the 50 day ma and the 200 day ma to be rising when the cross occurs. Here, the 200 day ma is still falling and is likely to do so for some time to come.

Accompanied with an increase in volume would be more compelling.

If you believe in that sort of stuff, surely there's no real decision to make when there's a golden cross?

When is BT going to buy this company.

OK, it's small beer in cash terms (0.175p per share) but it is not a technicality. You're talking about the overall company finances but in physical reality, for KCOM's customers, it's serious. If the house next door is on fire and you dial 999 AND NOBODY ANSWERS that's not a technicality. KCOM is supposed to ensure that emergency services can always be reached. In fact there was a flood in a BT exchange which blocked all the emergency calls for four hours. "To meet Ofcom rules, KCOM should have been able automatically to divert emergency calls via backup routes." In other words, there was a known single point of failure so KCOM should have had alternative ways of routing emergency calls, not relying on a single BT exchange. That meant that for 4 hours, people were making emergency calls and were not getting through.

Of all the things that worry me about this stock, a modest fine for some technicality isn't high on the list.

0.175p per share fine! Seems to be holding up :)

hxxps://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/08/08/kcom_whacked_with_900k_ofcom_fine_over_999_call_handling/ Telecommunications biz KCOM has been hit with a £900,000 fine [...] an investigation by Ofcom found the business broke a rule crucial to public health and safety by failing to ensure everyone can contact the emergency services at all times.

That's worrying, Septimus. I use this site for dividend stocks Https://www.topyields.nl/ftse250-best-dividend-stocks/ and it suggests an even worse cover situation. I would normally knock out anything paying more than 60 or 70% without further investigation.
