The Ditau prospect is a 7km x 5km magnetic and gravity anomaly (see the “Follow-upR Massive sulphide (base metal) deposits can be detected by CSAMT deep beneath the surface because they conduct electricity easily. The shape, orientation and depth of the conductors determines if the conductor should be drilled, particularly if the conductor coincides with zinc-in-soil (surface) anomalies. In Q1 2019, Kavango drilled two holes (core). Both holes encountered intense alteration and deformation of the Karoo age rocks, which lie above a mafic intrusive (gabbro), which is almost certainly the source of the magnetic and gravity anomaly. The alteration in the Karoo sediments appears to be in excess of 300m thick, whilst the alteration penetrates into the gabbro for at least another 75m. Iron and copper sulphide mineralisation is present throughout the altered Karoo sediments and the gabbro. Indicative cobalt mineralisation has been identified in both holes (portable XRF analyses). The core from both holes has been cut and sampled in Botswana and has been sent for assay and analysis at a laboratory in Australia. 05/6/2019 10:15 | SP Angel . Morning View.... Kavango Resources (KAV LN) 4.1p, Mkt Cap £6.7m – SkyTEM low frequency AEM penetrating below 400m of cover in Botswana to show new mega-structures Kavango, who appear to be rewriting the laws of probability with their drilling program in Botswana report results from their SkyTEM low frequency program AEM program. The system feeds into a 3D model to show lithological units, structures, zones of conductivity and potential ore bodies on a line by line basis. The system shows results down to 700m in some cases giving valuable information on the structures and magnetic characteristics of what lies below. The team have identified a number of conductors closely associated with certain types of intrusives and faults. SkyTEM 12.5Hz, which sounds like something out of the future, has revealed a 4.5km long conductor. Which is great given the system claims it can discriminate between false conductors and real conductors within its system. Some 45 conductors have been identified with 24 of these detected on a single flight line. Kavango’s geological team, which is almost all of them, will follow up on ground-based geophysical surveying and heinously dull but sadly all important soil geochemistry. The work should follow up on the two drill holes which hit mineralisation under the Karoo sediments which show copper and copper and cobalt mineralisation. The first drill hole hit a 200m zone of intensely altered rock with indicative cobalt values of up to 0.9%, averaging 0.2% cobalt and >70m of elevated copper, zinc, lead and nickel values as seen in very approximate XRF gun assays. We are waiting on the full assays from the two holes so we can confirm intersection lengths, minerals and grade. Conclusion: Kavango may have found a new method for discovering large scale, metalliferous anomalies in Botswana. If their first round of drilling is any indication then more exciting discoveries are yet to come. | cpap man
05/6/2019 10:05 | SP Angel . Morning View . US China rare earth threats escalate China looks at imposing export restrictions on Rare Earths… Like a game of Mahjong China loves playing games with the West where it holds most of the cards. The China State Planner, which is definitely filled with Mahjong players, is getting ready for its next move in the game of Rare Earth restrictions. We could assume the US military and other agencies saw all this coming and stockpiled REEs in preparation for this day but that would be to potentially credit more organised intelligence to a system better known for other things. China tells us that the National Development and Reform Commission met with industry experts who suggested a mechanism for tracking and approving REE exports. That’s code for we are going to restrict your supply suckers! Just to make sure the American’s get the hint Departments of the NDRC have indicated they will put measures ASAP and will crack down on, normally tolerated, illegal mining, processing and smuggling of REEs so there’s full compliance this time. The funny thing is the strategy has been playing out for years so there is not much that is really new in all this from what we see, though it may still hit US manufacturers which are trying to compete with counterparts in China. Problem is that it will take the West some time to start production of the heavy REEs needed for permanent magnets in motors and even non-Electric Vehicles and other devices use the properties of these REE materials to drive the electric windows, air conditioning and other servos. Fortunately China does not control all REE processing with four significant process plants outside China though they do still influence much supply. Sadly China still effectively controls the price of REEs offering very large and often prohibitive prices for concentrate material which cuts into the margins of aspiring Western miners. If the Competition Authorities could have a go at China, they would have a field day but while they may painfully investigate price collusion over punnets of Strawberries at Wimbledon they seem ineffective when it comes to REEs in China. …as the US Commerce Department scrambles to secure alternative supply The growing trade war stand-off is focusing on critical minerals required in everything from washing machines to military hardware, as the US Commerce Department promised “unprecedented action” to ensure that the US won’t be cut off from supplies of rare earths. The Department’s release of a report outlining steps to ensure supply came hours after the Asian nation’s top state economic planning body said it’s studying proposals to establish export controls on the materials. China’s state media highlights the value of rare earths as a potential trade weapon, with more than 80% global supply and higher proportion of processed product. Any attempt to curb exports would add to a rift between the world’s two biggest economies that already encompasses sweeping tariffs, the blacklisting of China’s top telecommunications group and warnings from China to its citizens traveling to the U.S. The report highlights “if China or Russia were to stop exports to the United States and its allies for a prolonged period -- similar to China’s rare earths embargo in 2010 -- an extended supply disruption could cause significant shocks throughout U.S. and foreign critical mineral supply chains.” The U.S. Commerce report recommends a number of steps, including improving the government’s understanding of domestic sources of rare earths and expediting approvals of mining permits. US reserves total 1.4Mt, 93x the nation’s 2018 output, according to US Geological Survey figures. | cpap man

The exploration firm said it had completed processing of data from a Phase 2 airborne electromagnetic (AEM) survey over the northern section of its prospecting licences, which had to date revealed 45 conductive anomalies. WATCH: Kavango Resources reckons it could be sitting on sizeable mineral deposit in Botswana The new data had also produced results that were “greatly superior” to the Phase 1 AEM survey, with the processing techniques able to discriminate between false (artefact) conductors created by the software and "real" conductors that are generated by the geology. Kavango said it would now survey the most compelling conductors with ground based resistivity techniques and detailed soil geochemistry with a view to identifying the best 3 or 4 targets for drilling. | skiboy10

05/6/2019 07:20 | From the Kavango Resources website Analysis of previously drilled core suggests that the magnetic anomaly is due to mafic intrusions, many of which are considered to be feeder zones to the vast basalt lava flows which once covered much of southern Africa. These intrusions display distinct similarities to the feeder zones that host the giant Norilsk deposits in Siberia. The project area covers about two thirds of the KSZ as well as unexplained magnetic anomalies on its eastern flank. Two helicopter-borne electromagnetic surveys covering a total of 4,070 line-kms over the northern part of the KSZ near the small town of Hukuntsi were completed in September 2018 (Phase 1) and February 2019 (Phase 2) by Geotech from Canada and SkyTEM from Denmark, respectively. SkyTEM’s innovative new generation 312 HP (High Power) technology achieved exceptional depth of investigation (average 400m) beneath the Kalahari sand cover and Karoo sediments due to the high moment (HM) mode with high current and low base frequency of 12.5 Hz. This system has only been on the market since 2017 and therefore represents a major advance in AEM systems. Aarhus Geophysics, Kavango’s independent geophysical consultant, has produced detailed 3D electromagnetic and magnetic models of the area flown by SkyTEM. This includes interpreted lithological units; magnetic susceptibility models and conductive targets. The model identifies conductors closely associated with gabbroic intrusives and faults. The modelling allows Kavango to view each line flown as a vertical section with depth penetration down to over 700m in some cases. It also provides for horizontal “slicing” Two example cross sections are shown below. The elevation above sea level is shown on the left axis at approx. 1,100m above sea level, and the bottom of the section is approx. 750m above sea level (and importantly beneath the Kalahari sand and Karoo sediment cover). The gabbro intrusive rocks are clearly visible penetrating into the Karoo sediments. X-Section – Line 100502 in PL365/2018 X-Section – Line 104301 in PL163/2012 Numerous conductive zone anomalies have now been identified. These are currently being followed up on the ground and detailed geophysics and geochemistry are enabling priority targets to be identified ahead of drilling. Plan view of Phase 2 AEM survey modelled by Aarhus Geophysics Ltd. The image is a horizontal slice at 240m depth below surface showing EM anomalies. Dots represent single line anomalies whereas linear shapes are over several lines. Each horizontal line is 500m apart. | skiboy10

04/6/2019 10:30 | SP Angel . Morning View . Chinese rare earth rivals still lacking capacity China’s rare earth rivals still lacking capacity While rare earths are hotting up the tit-for-tat trade war between China and the US, purchasers of the crucial green energy and military metals have limited producers to turn to, highlighting the significance of sustained investment and development in the scape. With consumers scrambling to secure exports, the US is turning to: Australia – the largest miner behind China raised output to 20ktpa (up 5% from 2018), according to the US Geological Survey. The nation is home to Lynas Corp., with the company announcing it plans to almost double output of fundamental neodymium and praseodymium by 2025 and expand processing capacity. It also plans to plug the shortfall in the US with a joint venture with Blue Line Corp., that will build a plant to process the commodities in Texas. | cpap man
04/6/2019 07:39 | The neodymium present in high concentrations is also similar to Olympic dam where the rare earth elements are also present but in much lower concentrations making them uneconomical to process there, the fact that we could have a higher quality but similar scale Olympic dam on our hands is very intriguing, remember at Olympic Dam they had to drill 10 holes into the orebody before they hit economic grades. Given the cobalt and neodymium present there must be a good chance of Uranium Gold and Silver in economic quantities if not in these cores then some place nearby, cant wait for the assay results..... | catsick |
