Should we ask JLP for a clarification of the difference and impact on selling price (if any)

In the Congolese-Zambian Copperbelt, several
100 million tonnes of tailings and slags have been
produced through decades of mining activities. This
is symbolised by the "Big Hill" slag heap, a prominent
landmark of the city of Lubumbashi. Heavy metal
contamination of rivers and soils, which is frequently
observed in the region, indicates that the storage and
disposal of historical tailings often took place without
adequate protective cover or sealing. As a result of
the high residual cobalt content of tailings, secondary
processing has become economically attractive;
it is currently being planned or already ongoing in
several industrial projects. Furthermore, artisanal
miners perform manual reprocessing of tailings. The
residual cobalt content of the tailings is in the range
of 0.2 to > 2 %, although not all of this is economically
recoverable
this refers to copper/cobalt tailings
is this relevant?

Hi Frog,
My post #49264, details Y/E 2022 results plus what I understand from most recent RNS.

Tonyevo in recent post might have blown it up as he may well have a better handle on Cobalt prices than I, which despite best efforts on Goggle, cannot establish what "contained cobalt" is. RNS referred to contained cobalt, 50 T =220 T final product and annual target of 1200 (contained) = 5280 T final product. I have made the assumption that final product is the cobalt sold on the market for around $50,000. Makes a big difference.

If anyone knows (tony?) what contained cobalt is as compared to "regular" cobalt as a saleable end product please enlighten us.

Thanks in anticipation.
GLS,
Cheers,
Chozza

From my understanding cobalt comes in various forms. The type we produce is worth about 20% of the actual price of Cobalt. So adjust your figures to take this in to account.

Hi Frog,

To help my understanding of where my numbers may be wrong, what are you unsure about?
Is it projected profit figures? P/E?, executional risk? Dilution? Cheap buy out?

I am trying to put some solid numbers together and if I have got it wrong I would appreciate anyone telling me the errors of my ways.

It is only with credible numbers that we can put a potential value on our investment.

If anyone else wants to do their own calculations, please do as it will help us all reach an agreed concensus. To my mind better than a collection of moans, rants, ramps, deramps.

Not sure about that chozza but I'm going to dream about those numbers tonight. Nice retirement home in San Diego, a small London gaff, and perhaps a modest Bavarian mountain escape.

Lightsout,

The year to 30th June 2022 showed net of tax trading profits of 19m sterling and a change in the value of the Zambian assets of 16m.

What is the meaning of 1200 tons of cobalt being the equivalent of 5k+ other? All I want to know is how many tons of cobalt at what selling price and the margin. What I am using is 1200 tons * $56,000 per ton at a margin of 45%.

Alpal,
RNS states 1200T of contained(?) cobalt equivalent to 5280T of final (saleable?) product. 5280 * $50,000 = $264,000,000 * 45% margin = $118,800,000.
Cheers,
Chozza

Cobalt future income: 1200tpa @ $50k per tonne = $60m revenue with high margin. At 50% margin gives additional profit per share of 1p. Is this right?
