My sister in law sister in law died of Covid last Sunday, she as always been over weight , but when Covid struck last March she locked her self away and isolated as well as possible she never left the house, and she probably caught it late December from a very close relative, but because she was so unfit and over weight she only lasted 2 days from the cough as you need to be fit to put up with the cough and i am speaking from experience you cough 24 hrs a day for at least 2 weeks depending from person to person,

The government would have been better off telling every one instead of isolating go for a very long walk every day , and on this walk find a hill and walk up it fast just to get fit enough to fight covid

I bet nearly all the regular posters on here read up on past pandemics, ie usually comes in 3 waves ,

wave 1 surprises the population and they all isolate,

Then every one comes out to play thinking its disappeared, but what they dont realise its got into every corner of society and is perculating away in the background

wave 2 Is the worst wave and is usually double or more as bad as the first

wave 3 is usually shortest and the least deadly

and then we have Herd immunity

So why as it surprised all the boffins and Boris, have they not read history

So the election having been stolen by fraud now the evidence of that fraud will be removed from public view.

The USA is soon to be a full totalitarian state to copy the Soviet Union & Communist China.

If Trump is gone nothing will restrain them.

@Timcast

Youtube has just announced that due to the events of yesterday at the Capitol they are moving up the timeline on "election related misinformation" removals from the 20th to today

Videos claiming widespread fraud or error altered the election will receive a strike and be removed

Italy to save America from the election fraud

@patcondell

The election was conducted in a way calculated to destabilise America, to cause confusion and to be wide open to fraud, which is what happened. Then the swamp closed ranks against the people, blocking all attempts to audit the result. Those Republicans must have plenty to hide.

A legitimate winner would welcome a full audit. It would give him a chance to really show off those 80 million votes. But everybody knows #Biden didn’t get those votes, and that #Trump won the election. Why should anyone ever vote again, now that cheating has been shown to pay?

Some people are so eager to see the back of #Trump they don’t seem to care that the democratic foundations of the republic have been fatally undermined. The situation could not be any more serious. If this fraud is allowed to stand, it’s the beginning of the end for America.

fireplace22, the sort of boxes I refer to are the usually pointless ones that achieve nothing except that the person ticking them gets Brownie points, and demonstrates that they are following the rules despite knowing the rules are pointless.

I had a conversation with a North Sea engineer installing wind generators, and he compared the UK methodology with the Danish methodology. Apparently the UK installers had quite a few problems because they relied upon forms with boxes to tick, when one installation team handed over to another for the next stage in the installation process. Thus the UK teams did not check the work of the previous team because all the boxes were correctly ticked, this led to often significant problems as work progressed, as it often turned out that work ticked as being completed had not in fact been done. Whereas the Danes had no such forms, thus the first thing a fresh team did, was to check exactly what the previous team had actually done, consequently they did not run into unforeseen problems.

Follow the protocols, tick all the boxes and your job and pension are safe. After all nothing else matters, does it?

My NZ daughter informs me that there is a shortage of fresh fruit in NZ just now. Not because there's none to be picked on the farms, but the temporary 'back packer' labour that usually does this job is not there this year. There's no shortage of willing local labour, but they are not allowed to pick the fruit because they don't have the correct official documentation! The current NZ PM is a darling of the left!

F22 - It was a policy the Government followed on the advice of the public sector scientists, medical professionals and Whitehall bureaucrats with entirely predictable results - once the public sector get involved in anything low performance standards and high costs are the only certainty.

Look at the PFI scandal - a Whitehall created £300bn and rising liability for the UK taxpayer! How many of the mainly public school educated bureaucrats lost their jobs over that scandal as a result of their total incompetence at negotiating deals with private sector business representatives who do it for a living?
I would bet good money, few if any. Olly Robbins in fact got promoted to represent the UK in our Brexit 'negotiations' with the EU - again with entirely predictable results!

When you spend £400B and destroy the nations economy to protect your people from suffering at the hands of Covid and then find that possibly up to half of the nation will have/had the disease anyway? That the resulting recession due primarily to the lockdown will result in 560,000 deaths in the UK. (from a Bristol University Impact study) The UK Govt apparently refuse to release theirs.
Does anything else really matter?
A success definitely!

Today's equity markets have similar characteristics to 2000 - the main indexes (S&P 500 and FTSE100) - are on very high valuations at or close to all time highs, while the counter cyclical O&G, Industrial Metals and Shipping markets are in the early stages of surging off multi decade lows.

During 2000 to 2006 the main indexes remained permanently in correction territory more than 20% down until late 2006.

During that period the counter cyclical oil and copper markets commenced a new cycle that saw the spot price rise by 298% and 496% respectively by 2006, and by 460% and 650% respectively by the 2008/9 peak of the recovery stage of the market cycle.

Rising Oil, Gas and Copper prices produced strongly increasing cash flow generation at the now super lean, low operating cost O&G and mining businesses that survived the long recession, spectacularly lifting the valuation of their equity; by way of example: BHP Billion went up 9 fold, Clarkson Shipbroker 11 fold, Premier Oil 17 fold, Talisman Energy 11 fold during the new commodity market cycle.

The remarkable growth performances of these and many other well run companies in these sectors were the result of a 6 year recession bottoming in 2000, which forced the management to take severe action to survive - they remorselessly drove down the cost base while increasing their operating and production efficiency. By 2000, the survivors were extremely efficient, low cost operators ready to hugely benefit from even a modest improvement in the price of their production assets.

$50 oil last year saw many crude oil producers generate strong operating cash flows - while at $70 oil they produced astonishing levels of cash flow by historic standards - by way of example JSE has produced circa $35/bbl and $55/bbl operating cash flow respectively at $50 and $70 Brent over the last 12 months.

In the O&G sector I continue to be a buyer of TXP(last purchase was 127p), Jadestone, Petrotal and Savannah Energy - hold 7 figure positions in each of them - and unless the story changes significantly for the worse expect to still be holding most of those positions in 2025 when I'm 65!

Having employment scars earned at the coalface from the last two commodity market/shipping cycle recessions etched deep in my back, I believe we're still in the infancy of this new market cycle recovery stage, which, over the last 70 years, has seen the four previous versions average between 6 and 9 years duration.

This latest commodity/shipping market cycle has the fundamentals to be one of the strongest on record as a result of the unprecedented global economic impact of the Covid Pandemic, likely kick starting massive government spending programmes worldwide on renewable energy and infrastructure development, which the high population emerging Nations of SE Asia and Africa will be layering on top of their existing urbanisation programmes - modernisation, electrification and development of their cities, transport networks, and Ports.

Like all previous commodity/shipping cycle recovery stages, since it is commencing from a near 50 year low point (the Baltic Dry Index dropped 98% peak to trough) it will be characterised by high volatility, but if you've got the stomach for the ride it's likely to be a lot of fun and see plenty of fortunes made.

AIMHO/DYOR

ps; A high conviction, diverse free, investment strategy specifically targeting the long, highly cyclical and volatile commodity and shipping markets during their once in 15-20 year recovery stage is perhaps not for all - so, only invest what you can afford to lose because the recession stage of these markets can be merciless - most US quoted shipping companies lost 98%+ of their equity value between 2010 and 2017.

President Trump's statement

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election & the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th. I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”

They tried to stop Trump winning in 2016.
They waged relentless war on him for 4 years.
They rigged the election against him.
They stopped an audit of the rigged votes.

They are on the verge of ruling the World.

They are evil to the core.
