The Board of JPMorgan Japan Smaller Companies Trust plc is pleased to announce the appointments of Martin Shenfield and Tom Walker as Non-executive Directors of the Company with effect from 29th July 2019, immediately after the Company's Annual General Meeting.

Mr Shenfield has over 35 years' experience in the asset management industry which includes managing both institutional and retail funds and overseeing global asset allocation, as well as holding several senior management positions. He is currently managing director of strategy at TS Lombard as well as acting as a general adviser to various family offices and funds. Mr Shenfield has extensive experience of the Asia Pacific including Japanese capital markets, having been a long-standing active portfolio manager of both institutional mandates and retail funds focused on the Japanese equity market and was seconded to Fidelity International's Tokyo office for three years from 1984 to 1987. He is a specialist in Asia Pacific macroeconomics and is also well versed in the analysis of individual Japanese sectors and companies. Mr Shenfield holds an MA in Classics and History from Cambridge University. He is a Director of Martin Currie Asia Unconstrained Trust plc.

Mr Shenfield does not currently own any shares in the Company.

Mr Walker was until recently, a portfolio manager at Martin Currie Investment Management Limited where latterly he headed up their Global Long Term Unconstrained equity team. As part of his responsibilities, he managed an investment trust, Martin Currie Global Portfolio Trust plc, as well as other global segregated portfolios. He joined Martin Currie in 1996, initially to lead their Pacific Basin investment team, subsequently moving to head their North America team. Mr Walker qualified as a chartered accountant with Thomson McLintock, now KPMG, then moved into investment management with Edinburgh Fund Managers and subsequently worked in Hong Kong with Baring Asset Management before joining Martin Currie. Mr Walker holds an MA in Law from Cambridge University. He is a Director of EP Global Opportunities Trust plc.

Mr Walker does not currently own any shares in the Company.
