Call me old-fashioned, but what do you expect if you go to a pub for coffee? Back in the day, when the markets (Covent Garden, Smithfield etc) operated in central London, you could get a pint with your breakfast at 8am. Now you're talking!

Obviously, cup you can refill as many times as you like, is obtaining the first cup of coffee that is the ordeal, four days ago. Very disappointing along with the margarine they now serve up.. I have used Wetherspoon regularly for years but this present level of service is not acceptable Walking through all the other customers with an empty cup then to stand in a queue at a coffee machine.?

Johnwise . You've obviously not been in a Spoons for a while anyway . As long as you have a cup you can refill as many times as you like . You are cutting your coffee to spite your face now I'm just waiting to be handed an empty beer mug myself !!!

My local Wetherspoon has installed a serve yourself coffee machine.. I have to pay for the coffee at the bar I was given an empty cup then I am expected to walk through all the other customers tables with my empty cup to the coffee machine at the other side of the room to help myself.. I will avoid, had my last coffee at Wetherspoon.

Don’t all London Sam Smiths pubs still charge £2.90 a pint?

Not the best beer in the world mind.

Johnwise,

"It’s not just the centre that is a rip-off, the entire sprawling, filthy ant hill is a despicable con to extort your cash."

There's a Sam Smith's pub, The Chandos, in the heart of Covent Garden which still sells ale at £2-something a pint.

Interesting how the Wetherspoon app is higher in the app download table than recent booming Domino's. 19,000+ in a month on Apple alone

I went to the world’s biggest Wetherspoon’s and it was an absolute bloody delight

Clearly the prices are a huge part of the appeal, especially living in London. It is now the norm to pay around £5 for a pint anywhere in zones 1-3. I’ve handed over more than that in places like Streatham, Southfields and Tooting. It’s not just the centre that is a rip-off, the entire sprawling, filthy ant hill is a despicable con to extort your cash.

Wetherspoon’s, however, is a something of a haven for those who would rather avoid being outright robbed whenever you fancy a drink.

This isn’t just having one rubbish lager on offer, Spoons’ range and quality of drinks is superb

The food does a job as well, no one is under the impression it is anything fancy, but burgers are priced as they should be, unlike the wide range of new, trendier joints that will charge you double because they are from America.

Another appeal of Wetherspoon’s is the buildings they are set in. Not all of them, some are a bit too much on the dark and dingy side, but others are genuinely very nice.

Well it has only taken 110,000 table service Order & Pay app downloads via Apple alone in the last 4 months before top pub analysts Berenberg notice what is going on & alter their shamefully inaccurate Sell 750p price recommendation & upgrade by a whopping 400p...

Wetherspoon could probably double its coffee sales if it stopped selling that brand of Italian coffee, it is definitely the worst coffee on the high street... Pret a Manger has a filter coffee at 99 pence and it is superb

Wetherspoon could stop serving Kopparberg and Italian coffee in pro-Brexit protest

Johnwise.....yes, a third of British pubs have closed since the 1970s. But, what are the figures for how many have opened ? Not as many as have closed almost certainly; but whilst old style 'boozers' have closed, they've been replaced in part at least, by 'bars', and - the latest fashion - 'micro-pubs'. Was in Hebden Bridge, W.Yorks the other night, went into two recently opened 'bars' - they didn't look like 'pubs' and you wouldn't describe them as such, but both were busy with.
Spoons have tapped into this change in lifestyles, last time I looked food was 42% of turnover, and today's figures show food is growing at closing on double the rate of wet sales ((3.1% to 5.7%)...in near future you'd expect it to be approaching 50% of all sales, especially as the 41 pubs they've closed in the past year have been old-style 'boozers' e.g. Ellesemere Port, and Birkenhead, and the new ones e.g. Garforth, nr Leeds, and the Royal Victoria Pavilion, Ramsgate are very much food led.

A link to this article has been sent to the Prime Minister's Office

" A third of British pubs have now closed since the 1970s thanks to rising business rates and beer taxes"

"For example, The Baum in Rochdale, Camra's National Pub of the Year 2012 will see its rateable value increased by 377per cent. The Sandford Park Alehouse in Cheltenham, National Pub of the Year 2015, faces an increase of 181 per cent.

Indeed, it's amazing how pubs & restaurants have flat or falling like for likes & Big Tim is beating by doing 3 significant things & none of the analysts, journalists or posters have cottoned on to understanding & detailing any of them, especially the most innovative which has raised the bar for the whole trade...
