Johnwise - you seem to have followed the daft government premise that an outbreak lasting a year, and killing potentially a million British people, is better than one lasting 2-3 months, as in China and South Korea; simply because Boris hasn't got the cojones to enforce stricter rules. It's a criminal misjudgement in every way, including economically.

Sadly this is just the beginning, the impact on the economy has not even started, yes travel agents and plane companies would be the first to fall but the rest is going to suffer, this is going to be a total bloodbath from big companies (pensions) to small companies........ only hope is for a miracle cure to calm the market asap .....unfortunately Boris idea of getting as many people sick instead than closing everything would cause unnecessary delays and deaths....

Ok so short medium term it looks like things are going to take a big hit HOWEVER lets look longer term everything I have read predicts a curve where after a big increase in cases they reduce sharply.Unless you think Wetherspoons can not survive that period do people not think be it a year or more away profits will return to similar pre-coronavirus levels making this and indeed many over beat up companies an exceptional long term buy?

That's strange, because China had it under control within 2 months of taking action, and it affected 0.01% of the Chinese population.

Even allowing for their dictatorship, how do you account for these "expert" views?

Any chance that it could be because the DM is a scaremongering rag?

Buy shares at your peril, the virus is about to hit big time and profit warnings will follow, It looks like being spring 2021 before the virus is really under control, and even then there may be a comeback later. With such a long way to go it is probably best to wait before buying shares unless you really are a gambler.

The Sun is a reputable newspaper (to the majority of Wetherspoons pubgoers)

Will the UK be far behind?.. I don't think so.

If you wanted to take a longer term contrarian view,
the stronger operators will survive and ultimately thrive ?..
