Problem is now that the ones that are left are very busy , almost too busy.

Seventy-six pubs 'shutting per month', but closure rate slowing

Nearly 1,000 UK pubs shut last year, although the rate of closures is slowing, new research claims.

About 76 pubs a month "vanished" from the communities they served in 2018, as people spent less on going out and pubs faced cost pressures, said property firm Altus Group.

But this was down from 138 a month during the previous seven years.

Alex Probyn, of Altus Group, said recent cuts to business rates had helped.

"The increase in the thresholds at which businesses, such as pubs, pay business rates coupled with the pubs discount during the last two financial years has helped ease the decline."

According to the firm's research, the number of pubs slumped from more than 54,000 to 43,000 between 2010 and 2017.
'Triple whammy'

Industry group the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) says more people are drinking at home to save money, while younger people are consuming less alcohol in general.

And pubs have faced a "triple whammy" of taxes in the form of high Beer Duty, VAT and business rates.

"Pubs currently pay 2.8% of the business rates bill but only account for 0.5% of total business turnover, which is an overpayment of around £500m by the sector each year," it says on its website.

High business rates are also viewed as contributing to the rising number of retail closures on Britain's high streets.

But Altus said government changes to rates were starting to benefit the pubs industry, with the number liable to pay rates at all down by more than 1,500.

It added that new rates relief, brought in on 1 April by the Chancellor, would help further.

"The new retail discount, which slashed rates bills by a third for high street firms with a rateable value less than £51,000, will help independent licensees in small premises," said Mr Probyn.

Wetherspoons is opening two new pubs in Ireland. They are Tullow Gate in Carlow and The Silver Penny on Abbey Street in Dublin and both are expected to be in business by mid-May.

The Silver Penny will have two bars, with the main bar on the ground floor serving a large two storey space surrounded by a first-floor gallery and an impressive roof light.

As well as the pubs a new 89-bedroom hotel and bar is set to open in January 2020 in Dublin. The three new pubs will bring the number of Wetherspoon outlets in Ireland to eight, with more on the cards.

A total of 27 million euros is being invested on the three new establishments, with the creation of roughly 570 new jobs.

Tim Martin, Wetherspoon’s chairman, said of the developments, “We have enjoyed great success with our five existing pubs in the Republic of Ireland and are looking forward to opening the three new outlets. We will continue to look for other sites.”

This was done because, in October 2016, May instructed the Cabinet Office, Foreign Office and Ministry of Defence to lock us into the emerging European Defence Union. In June 2017, she attended the European Council where she approved the European Defence Fund, the European Defence Industrial Development Programme, and PESCO. But in her statement to Parliament the following week, she omitted all references to it. This too was unconstitutional.

Defence Agency, the European Union Institute for Security Studies, and the European Union Satellite Centre, as well as to the costs of Common Security and Defence Policy operations”. The Commission’s own stats show that, during the period 2021-28, this will cost us €31.3 billion.
“The ‘deal’ surrenders British national security by subordinating UK defence forces to Military EU control and compromising UK Intelligence capabilities."
compromising UK Intelligence capabilities.see i thought that was humorous, inteligence there shirley aving a laugh, mro.
"But why is it any surprise? Always remember, the government is NOT your friend, the government does NOT work for you, any actual ‘good’ the government does for us is certain to be unintentional, accidental or an electoral bribe which while it may be welcome to many usually turns out in the long run not to be a ‘good’ thing at all." he,s obviously ear wigging this board, mro.

“The Commission’s own stats show that, during the period 2021-28, this will cost us €31.3 billion.” I don’t understand. That bit of the Agreement (Article 156) only runs until the end of 2020.
————————-
"Not so. Things signed outside the WA overrule it. These include the Framework Partnership Agreement and the political declaration, which very clearly sign the UK up for participation. The 2012-28 Budget, by the way, is a whopping twenty times bigger than its predecessor, the 2014-21. JW"

There is three parts to Johns post, above is taken from part 2,not read part 3 as yet, mro.

From Mr Macron -

Please Mrs Merkel , tell us the French position .

1 - when do we surrender ?
2 - who do we surrender to ?
3 - when do we start collaberating ?
4 - when do we get some money ?
5 - when do we blame it all on the British ?
6 - honestly Mrs Merkel , when can Germany invade us next
because it's the only thing that can help our economy ?
7 - if we can reach an agreement with Spain , so that we get the Channel
Islands , Spain gets Gibraltar , will you help us send all our immigrants
to Britain ?

................ Buywell Message for Tim Martin ................

Tim

I am an avid fan, like your Brexit initiatives , and your pub grub and plonk

BUT

Re your wednesday chicken cheapies served from 12.00hrs

And focusing on your Quinoa with chicken special

''Try our quinoa chicken salad, a whole breast of hand-pulled chicken, served on a salad made up of quinoa, rice, black turtle beans, pink cabbage, grilled yellow pepper, Roquito® pepper, pumpkin seeds, kale, dressing. If ordered with grilled halloumi, instead of chicken, this dish is suitable for vegetarians.''

Where I was , this was offered at 8.35 to include an alcoholic drink.

My post is to point out that if you buy a standard quinoa salad off the menu any day ... it has the above PLUS Avacado ( a half of one usually) minus the pulled chicken for 6.80 and still includes the drink.

One can add pulled chicken as an extra for 1.55p = 8.35

Which means on special offer days you do buy your special deal 5p CHEAPER BUT with no Avocado like on the normal menu .

Avacado as an extra cost 75p .... so in effect you are 70p worse off .... come on TIM

See their smarmy friends. Join in with the riddicule and condemation of the working class. Help plan wage suppression and worker rights erosion with mass immigration. Watch as native cultures are swamped & replaced with lesser messed-up cultures. Don't miss the gravytrain. Bonus set of backstabbing knives, engraved with EU one one side, and LondonIsSafe on the other.
