results due shortly,
relieved that there is no IHT change in the budget which might seriously have destabilised companies like Latham.

may be that volumes were not up 6% at the AGM statement 2 months ago. On reflection, turnover was up 6% in the first few months of the new financial year but this may have had more to do with price rises to accommodate costs of timber imports in euros and dollars than volumes which might even have declined or only been steady. In any event margins may have suffered slightly in relation to the same period one year ago because of sterling's fall.

to be precise it looks as though the defined benefit scheme is one of the last still open, which makes the company good to work for and aids staff retention and recuitment no doubt, the company has about 350 employees, the assets of the scheme were about 50m and the liabilities about 60m in the last annual accounts; there is extreme sensitivity to interest rates.

well, hvs it's true; the actuarial pension liability is may be 14m or more;I'm not sure if they still operate a final salary pension scheme; it might decline if interests rates rise and is more than the profit from the Clapham sale years ago; just something to bear in mind in a cyclical co like this even if you are a long-term holder for IHT reasons such as family and myself...

wever, they always have had a large pension liability that would have swallowed the Clapham proceeds quite easily?

lol !!!! lol !!!!!!!!

I think this was my first post on TMF about the company...

That was all linked to the very significant uplift I expected due to the development of their Clapham site. So anyone buying then got in with the market cap at just £23m and with freeholds and developable land worth substantially in excess of that.
