I bought a few last week to tuck away for the long term. Not cheap, but solid long term growth prospects and a reasonable yield.

these are looking like touching £4 again, unless a very good trading statement is forthcoming.

Buy and forget! Not a bargain on fundamentals and the ftse at near ATH does not scream buy to me , but I bought some back earlier this month for an investment not a trade.

Opportunities beckoning? Someone just snaffled 70k at 468p , but with 200million in issue , still not even a thousandth of total.

JHD has been a core holding of mine for well over 3 years. In January I took the decision to sell down a chunk (60%) at an average price of 492p and then watched it steadily rise from there! The reason for my (reluctant) decision was principally the p/e which I felt was too high given the actual growth rate and I think borne out by the recent interims. Even now (with the shares down some 45p from their recent highs) it is on a rating of 26x current year's earnings and 27x next year - with an eps growing at 4%. Having said that I would be looking to reinstate it as a core holding if the rating became, in my view, more realistic.

I have been in and out several times since the last special dividend ; that was 4 yrs ago. Still not sure I understand the EPS explanation ; income tax only went up form 23 to 23.8%. Anyway we all agree it is a healthy company. I just felt it was overvalued over £5 but happy to buy back cheaper.

Come on Wad - you know the answer Australia and NZ are rockin and their corp tax rate is higher so tax goes up a bit and the slight increase in shares (options) tweeks the EPS. Still well covered and cash growth continues to inspire Special ? You sold before the last one didn't you ? I see that SIG sold off one of the customers - their RNS says that the buyer was Endless LLP...they buy none-core businesses and brands that have fallen on hard times.... looks like they bought cheap

How come the EPS is down despite the pretax profits up? Have they increased the options that much? No , similar number in issue.

Won't go xd for another 2 months and the divi last May was only 3.5p - less than 1% of the share price so suggest don't base your buyback on that!

Saint, You're right of course, but at 100% profit, I couldn't resist in the hope of getting back in cheaper. As I said, I'm not a trader, although I have sold and bought back JHD a couple of times, which has accumulated me 20% more shares than I started with, both of which are still very modest investments. It hasn't worked this time, so I might just buy in again anyway, wouldn't want to miss the divi!

Don't think my broker will be making much on £9 a trade! Buying and holding has done well here for several yrs but I hate watching paper profits slip away as yet another market slump comes along. Ask me again in a year!

I'm not a trader, but I did sell mine at £5 a few weeks ago, feeling sure I'd be able to buy them back a bit cheaper, which hasn't happened so far.... I find it amazing the way they keep growing, in a very basic industry, but I've been saying that for about fifteen years :-)
