10/2/2014 21:26 | The 2014 and 2015 profit forecasts are about 15 and 16p per share ; which are covering the prospective 3.1 % yield by about 1.8x . But JHD has a habit of outperforming its forecasts hence the specials. Agree it is not going to be a big capital gainer or a big income stock , but it sits in a good niche. | wad collector
06/2/2014 16:10 | That's true but the ordinary dividend is only covered about 1.6 times by projected eps so where's the special divi going to come from? I'm not saying JHD hasn't done well over the years but I do think it's living on it's past at the current rating given the outlook. | alter ego
06/2/2014 15:49 | Don't be misled by the headline yield - look at the special didvidend history. It is not modest. | wad collector
06/2/2014 11:48 | marvels? What I marvel at is anyone prepared to but a stock that's on a forward p/e of 21+ and forecast growth of 3% and a modest dividend. It may be a good solid stock but strikes me as seriously overpriced. | alter ego
06/2/2014 10:31 | New high today , though low volume and wide spread. Word out about the marvels of JHD on some brokers floor? | wad collector
05/2/2014 11:04 | I bet the half-time divi's another record though..... | trigger blade

04/2/2014 17:33 | So the year on year rise is finally at an end. For now. | wad collector
03/2/2014 07:51 | JAMES HALSTEAD PLC Pre Close Trading Statement James Halstead plc, the commercial flooring manufacturer and distributor, is providing the following trading update ahead of its interim results for the half-year to 31 December 2013. In his AGM trading update, on 6 December 2013, Mr. Geoffrey Halstead noted that he was pleased to be able to report growth in turnover, albeit modest, both in the UK and in our overseas markets. Central Europe and in particular France were continuing to grow with Australia and New Zealand on a par with last year. However, Mr. Halstead did also give a word of caution that December is always an unpredictable month, and in the event December was not a good month with many of our major markets trading below the same month the previous year against a trend of consistent positive results. Nevertheless, revenue for the 6 months to December 2013 was 2% ahead of the previous year. Taking the above into consideration it is expected that profit before tax will be in line with forecasts and around 3-4% below the record prior year interim profit. | lundhousegreen
15/1/2014 13:39 | I bought my ISA holding back in at 317 ; I think this could become a traders share! I want more if it drops much below £3 again. | wad collector
14/1/2014 16:53 | £3.20 - bit high | bda3490
10/1/2014 16:05 | I have no idea what a healthy looking chart is! 339 was higher than I could have got earlier I've been wondering whether to get out briefly in the expectation of a drop. The P/E is currently well over 20 and the dividend isn't great as a %, the price surely can't keep going up? | trigger blade
10/1/2014 11:51 | I managed to sell my non-ISA holding for 339 this morning (not showing up on the trade history for some reason).Rather pleased with the price. I am only selling in order to buy back into my ISA , as I suspect another dip will be on the horizon . | wad collector
08/1/2014 23:08 | Indeed ; the New Year is starting with a healthy looking chart , though todays intraday chart is wrong - mid-price been around 335 all day not the 339 indicated. | wad collector
23/12/2013 15:50 | Irrespective of the duration of the AGM, the price looks to be convincingly trending up again after the falls of the first half of the year. | vulgaris
09/12/2013 08:36 | Maybe neither of you went to the Real AGM? Will you both go next year for 8 minutes? | wad collector
08/12/2013 08:13 | The meeting did start slightly early. I timed it at about 8 minutes. Driving the extra miles meant just coffee or orange juice. Frustrating drive to and from the venue.Lane 4 of the M60 from the North not a nice place.(no moving traffic) Was stopped in all heavy traffic for ages around the M62 / M60 junction. On the return journey back home, it took 20 minutes to get 1/4 mile from stadium to motorway due to road works around the area. Nice enough venue but no rail / tram links. | lundhousegreen
07/12/2013 13:14 | Orange juice and coffee in my case, due to the less rail friendly venue. It's a very neat stadium and will be better when there's a proper road in and out back to the M60. New venue, same chicken goujons and cheeseboard :-) Next year, I'm going to run a book on how long the AGM will last, in increments of 10 seconds, £1 to enter. I'll set up a desk by the door. This time, all ten resolutions were passed and the meeting closed by 12.05. | trigger blade

06/12/2013 08:08 | JAMES HALSTEAD PLC Chairman's Statement to the Annual General Meeting James Halstead plc, the commercial flooring company, will hold its AGM today at 12.00 noon at which the Chairman, Mr Geoffrey Halstead, will make the following statement: As is customary, I would like to give you an update on trading now that we are five months into the current financial year. In my report on the results for the year ended 30 June 2013 I noted that the seeds of recovery were patchy but apparent and I am pleased to be able to report growth in turnover both in the UK and in our overseas markets, albeit modest. Central Europe and in particular France are continuing to grow with Australia and New Zealand on a par with last year. Raw material supply and input prices are steady with overheads under close scrutiny, as they should be, in these challenging times. December is always an unpredictable month but as we stand today I believe our first half results will be in line with management expectations. Our cash balances continue to be solid underpinning the 6p dividend paid today which is an increase of 9.1% on that of last ENDS | lundhousegreen
04/12/2013 11:23 | Might be a background purchase being worked through? Anyway, the rise is a welcome sight (and a little overdue if I do say so myself). :-) | billy_liar
04/12/2013 09:37 | I wanted to sell some and have been put off by the spread , but suddenly I was offered a price of 306 and sold just over 3000. Ten minutes later the trade still is not showing ; haven't seen that happen before. These were outside my ISA , so I plan to buy back inside my ISA on weakness. An hour later the trade is still not showing - I worried that I had sold the wrong share for a minute. I dare say it will show up eventually but I have never seen such a delay before ; quite misleading if you only have level 1 data. .....later... Now finally showing up as a trade . Curious spike today- highest for a while , on no news. | wad collector
28/11/2013 09:44 | Looks like it may be starting the next leg up ahead of the January pre-close trading statement. | billy_liar
06/11/2013 13:01 | Xd 6p today but currently down 20p. I doubt a significant cause ; Buytime for me at 280p. | wad collector
30/10/2013 18:46 | I used to go to a lot in London and enjoy other aspects of London as well as the AGM. With JHD (which was for me a more significant holding until I halved it last year) it was a chance to chat various regular attendees and, whilst in the North, to visit my surviving friends and relatives. Investment Trusts were good to go to as the fund managers gave presentations about their key investments market trends etc. I only have one Investment Trust currently. Must be getting old. Hope this company gets on a roll again. z | zeppo |
