16/2/2018 20:36 | LOL, Roddie. However, it appears I really have missed the boat for a cheap top up. Too busy dealing with other pesky things to take action. I wonder why there was such a big leap today, just as I wondered why there was such a big drop earlier. Doh! Ours not to reason why, ours just to blame the traders, mms and algorithms, anyone but ourselves. Have a good weekend. Hope your garden is in a better state than mine. | bouleversee
16/2/2018 20:00 | bouleversee, Over on shareprice they show this for FSJ at the close:--- 14.987 -1,409.0193 (-98.94% ) We appear to have missed the boat ! | roddiemac2
14/2/2018 18:57 | Roddie - If I include all the ones I have given away to children and grandchildren, it's my largest too by a wide margin, though the astronomic gain with vpc is closing the gap.. I also drive an old car, good enough for taking all the garden rubbish to the dump and going to the supermarket which is about as far as I get now. Sad. | bouleversee
14/2/2018 17:07 | illiswilgig, No expensive cars for me. I drive a short wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter van :bought new, now 15 years old. I converted it into a windowless camper ( sleeping capsule / very well insulated ). It beats driving a car ; I get a lovely view from the cab, and It is currently very useful carrying rubbish to the local dump. It got us down to France and Spain for the duration of last winter. I don`t bother about scratches , just the rust patches. I am tempted to buy a few more FSJ. At some point they are likely to do better .Like yourself, and forddrive over on shareprice, FSJ is my largest holding . bouleversee, The current share price may be a consequence of the mood in the market as a whole. There is no reason, that I know of, to believe there is bad news in the pipeline. Daily volume has tended to be low , and mostly made up of small trades. Yours, white van man | roddiemac2
14/2/2018 10:56 | Roddiemac - Yes, I was pulling your legs; I did know those prices were crazy. What idiots run these sites and put pounds instead of pence? To be serious though, FSJ have come back rather more than most. Is there anything to worry about before I top up, in the absence of any better prospects I can think of? I note Illis's comments about windfarms; there will also be a lot of decommissioning of oil rigs so I don't understand why the price is so low. I also note Illis. has sold his GKN. I have a reasonably large holding and wondering what to do about it in view of the Melrose offer. Probably would have made more sense to sell as soon as they came on the scene as the share price has come back a bit since then. I have to decide whether to accept the Melrose offer (and which option) by March 5; am sitting on my hands pro tem. With CLLN, IRV, IMB, the utilities and countless other disasters my p/f is well down. | bouleversee
13/2/2018 20:07 | The share price is going to have to motor somewhat to give you a gain on your recent purchase, illiswilgig. According to Digital Look's new website, FSJ's share price has dropped £48 in the past week, £260 in the past month and £198 in the past year. No wonder Roddie's reduced to doing up an old wreck! I'm feeling like one myself. LOL. | bouleversee
31/1/2018 23:16 | I have topped up below 1500p recently despite FSJ currently being my 3rd largest holding, though it keeps swapping around with Man Group (EMG) and Boohoo (Boo) at the moment for pole position as my largest holding. I may sell my topup in a couple of months to help realise some of the large amounnt of capital gains that have built up over the last 15+ years. Roddi - I did take note of your comment about CML and am quite impressed and so took a small position before the most recent leg upwards. Thanks. cheers Illiswilgig | illiswilgig
30/1/2018 13:14 | bouleversee, I have indeed top lopped and then bought back in the past, but not in the last few years. I was mightily overweight for some time, so reduced my holding by a third over a period of time. I am still very overweight , but am happy to hold for the long term . Overall, I am very inactive these days. I bought some FENR recently, and have added to my holding of GMAA. I also built up a holding in SFR last year. CML has done well over the long term, and is today hosting investors at the Growth & Innovation forum, ( event website at: hxxps://www.sharesma I bought a derelict house late last year , and my partner and I are camping out in it now. As a consequence, I have less time to concentrate on investment. My investment stance has always been " laid back"; others might call it complacent, but it has worked . I have invested in a very few ideas for the long term, and stuck with them unless they have disappointed:---So far so good. I will of course post what I think if I have any doubts about FSJ. | roddiemac2
30/1/2018 11:19 | Only asked because (unlike me) you seem to have the knack of selling some when share price is high and buying more when low. Was contemplating adding a few myself. | bouleversee
30/1/2018 10:21 | bouleversee, Why would I do that ? FSJ is by far my largest holding already. | roddiemac2
29/1/2018 19:28 | Thanks, Roddie. So are you topping up at these prices? | bouleversee
29/1/2018 19:08 | bouleversee, I would not read too much into share price movements here. FSJ will get business from the the decommissioning of oil rigs. They are very unlikely to handle the complete job of decommissioning, but very likely to provide various specialist services. | roddiemac2
26/1/2018 21:56 | Dollar weakness? | bscuit
26/1/2018 18:23 | Crikey, how things can change when you are not watching! So why has the share price fallen back since I last tuned in? Are FSJ into decommissioning oil rigs and pipelines? I gather that's where big money is to be made in the years to come as the oil fields run out. Who is doing it for Shell's Brent field, I wonder? Of course, thinking of Carillion (ouch, I prefer to forget!)) profitability will depend on their not underquoting in the first place. | bouleversee
12/1/2018 14:40 | bouleversee, Yes, it is interesting to see RDSA getting into renewables. | roddiemac2
12/1/2018 11:40 | roddiemac - Well remembered! I am indeed still a holder of FENR and noticed the recent rise. I should have topped up but nervous of top ups after falls after doing so with CLLN and IRV. Pleased to see GKN up today as well as they were quite a bit down from the top but Card Factory way down. Pleased to see FSJ climbing again. I'm not sure about the long term future of oil, what with elec. cars becoming the norm and US pension funds selling their oil shares for environmental reasons. I think they are going to have to diversify like FENR. Actually, I think I read that RDS are doing that. On an impulse last year (quite out of character) I bought some UKOG thinking I might make a quick profit and get out but instead am making a huge loss. No idea what the recovery prospects are there; doesn't look too hopeful. Too many holdings to keep track of and I must resist clicking onto any more alerts until I have completed my tax return and that of the estate; am starting to panic! HYN to you, too! | bouleversee
12/1/2018 11:18 | A happy and prosperous new year to all holders here. bouleversee, I note that FENR has got a new lease of life. I bought some on the 15th of November last year. I will contemplate adding if they drop back some. Diversification alters the hitherto cyclical nature of the business. I hope you are still a holder. FSJ:- The shares have held up well. How much of that is due to long term holders` loyalty, and how much is due to the strengthening oil price I know not. There may be another set back with oil, but long term things should improve. Tullow and Premier Oil have taken off in the last few days, perhaps prematurely. ( correction/ long term holders , not short term holders ) | roddiemac2
08/12/2017 19:46 | Short term thinking does seem prevalent these days. I suppose the internet has made it easy to gamble on shares. A broker once told me that I was doing OK, and that most traders don`t make much money, if any. Shroders have held FSJ for longer than I have, so we are not alone in our approach. | roddiemac2
06/12/2017 14:05 | Sorry I was being a little tongue-in-cheek hence the :-) I pay no (or very little) attention to short term movements in share price. I learnt many years ago that I am not a trader, speculator or gambler. I invest in companies where I see good long term value and then wait. As Warren Buffett supposedly said, my favourite holding period is - forever. I am taking more of an interest in Fisher at the moment because it has not returned to the >10% growth in profits each year I anticipated. Either the forecasts are wrong or I am wrong and I'm keen to find out which! | illiswilgig
06/12/2017 13:06 | That's better. IMHO the share price has nothing to do with intrinsic value and is dictated by the desires and whims of the short term traders and algorithms. I find it very tedious as I am not a gambler and gambling is what investment has become. If you want a good example of the shenanigans that go on, have a look at the PFC board. Utterly ridiculous. | bouleversee
06/12/2017 09:23 | The market doesn't seem to like it. | bouleversee
06/12/2017 08:41 | Well. Fisher back on the acquisition trail, this time an installer of highvoltage engineering and services for renewables. Looks to be a good fit in their offshore wind market and a reasonable price for a profitable company, rather than jam tomorrow. | illiswilgig |
