Matthewr1 - I think the rise on Friday was probably down to a few things…..

1) evidence that there has been a big recovery in advertising revenue coming out of the pandemic. Companies are investing a lot of money on marketing and e-commerce, look at WPP’s most recent trading statement, it was very strong.

2) I think there have probably been alot of watchers of the ITV share price over the last few months and people have been waiting for the right moment to dip their toes in the water. I think most would agree that given the strength and size of the business it is very under valued at the current price.

anything seems possible is quite a walk back from telling people they clearly dont understand how markets work if they cant see the manipulation going on here......

It is refreshing to read that everyone has already forgotten that dark period (several years) when Liberty Global lent their initial stake (6.4%) to Goldman Sachs. Goldman then levered the position up to 9.9% and the dark period began - that was the end of July 2015.
That only ending in Dec 2020 when Goldman Sachs returned a full 9.9% ordinary share position to Liberty Global - no longer a leveraged position.
According to Liberty Global the initial purchase cost of their ITV holdings had been more than halved across that 5 year period benefiting from Goldman Sachs’s leverage mechanism/trading - clearly not manipulation just clever trading by extremely smart people and algorithms. To be fair I am sure Goldman Sachs also benefitted from the pandemic initiated price drop in helping them deliver this remarkable performance for Liberty Global - extremely clever trading!

Thankfully those days are over but having lived through that period anything seems possible - just clever trading.

Again Angelsharkz , I agree entirely. I don’t mean to sound patronising , but the people who say it’s being manipulated clearly haven’t worked in financial services , certainly not since the GFC. It is utter nonsense to talk of manipulation , it really is.
Having said that , I always used to think that a good Friday move for no apparent reason would be followed by a weekend press story………we’ll see.

The ITV share price’s most recent high was 134p at the beginning of June this year and has been in very slow decline since. We’re almost in November. I don’t think it would be possible to manipulate a share for that long and I don’t see why anyone would choose to do so? If there was a sharp decline and some big holders increasing their stake or some sizeable short positions taken out against ITV then maybe you could lean towards some kind of manipulation….but I don’t think that is the case here - but that’s being said I have no evidence either way.

I don’t think the market responded too positively to the half year results - no definite return to dividend and a non comital outlook for the second half of the year.

I hope along with some positive numbers there is more optimism in the forward looking statements from ITV…..they need to show that they are going to be strong moving forwards and that the outlook here is a positive one rather than ‘we’re not so sure’

nigeat least you admit you dont knowa number of people here say categorically that it is being manipulated to the down side, no proof, just tea leavesif true it just creates bargains for the market...that wasnt really interested until the price hit 102 and rumours of good numbers started circulating...ivan is a fantasist who is predicting something based on nothing with no deadline and on occasion mutually exclusive theories....itv has been tipped as being lined up to be taken over since about 2001...things have changed tv is going streaming even more than ever, anyone can create content, why pay 5-7bn plus the premium 10bn? ...yes there are reasons to do so, but the trends and more reasons are against it....else they would have been bought by nowid like to see a merger between bt and itv or something similar....

Stan, as I've said previously I don't know if the ITV share price is being manipulated or not, I suppose I'm leaning to the side that hopes it is, this would explain a lot, plus it may well lead to a positive outcome at the end.

A question for you Stan, if ITV receives a takeover bid say in the next 6 months, will you acknowledge that Ivan was correct all along? Lol. I know I will be the first to acknowledge and congratulate him. Not just Ivan to be fair, most posters on here think along the same lines, they all can't be wrong can they? Lol

Anyone had any experiences with sharepad pro (sharescope)?
Is the service any good?
Looks like a better value deal for news and L2/3 data than advfn?
All advice welcome.
Thanks

Very nice to see the action on this thread today, could they have accumulated enough to be near to disclosure level.

I am convinced that the majority on here are correct, the share has been under the control of market makers, they have to stop when levels become as much as the float.

We will see next week if this is let to trade fairly.

Very short nails now thanks.
Been adding to my position since Tuesday and went banzai mid morning.
It’s been a long journey as holding a position of various sizes for a
considerable time.
Let’s hope we’ve turned the corner and I am sure the numbers will be exceptional on the 10th - But there are others with deeper pockets that are equally as sure (with the same view but feel they should pay less because of their large pockets).
So let’s see what happens in the run up but I think the tide has turned and even they can’t control it now.
Or maybe I am entirely wrong on everything?
Fingers crossed.

PS
Glad to see ITVs Commercial Director got his share options locked in at c.104p - I am absolutely sure it’s more luck than judgement (a lucky co-incidence) and I am happy for him as the reward is well deserved.

Thanks waspfactory. ITV has been on my watchlist for a good while and I’ve been puzzling as the share price has drifted down…..I suspect there have been others waiting for the right moment to jump in.

Let’s get this closing auction out of the way and see how we stand but I think today shows a few people are anticipating good Q3 results here.

It’s pushing on. If we could close the day around 107p that would be a very good day indeed, anything more is a bonus.

There have been some nice juicy broker upgrades slapped onto WPP today….obviously needs to be kept in perspective but encouraging for ITV all the same.
