I luckily sold out ahead of the summer rout at 133p but i do have huge sympathy for longer term holders as its been a poor investment, i was just looking today at the price and thinking whether i go back in but tbh i dont like brit box, i dont use does anyone else and is it going to actually work long term and be a material earnings driver or just be ditched? Thanks

Yes it is unusual to put it so far up. Many times its used to hold price down when close to offer but 135p? It was put on at 0920am

hades Placing book orders well off the price is something that has always interested me. I have never found anyone who has been willing to tell me why it is done. I have put buy/sells off the price hoping to get them filled when someone trades at best but you do also see orders deliberately placed miles away from the market price Earlier this year BHP had a 3M order to sell placed 300 above the quote. Almost as though someone was expecting a big transitory price spike

Hades the comment isn't about ITV relative to its sector or about the UK. i started this on the SMDS thread and it was obvious from the numbers that not only was Smiths worse than Mondi and Smurfitt but only Smurfitt beat a global index tracker. So why bother buying SMDS at all? The ITV numbers for 2 years are ITV -22% VWRD +36% One year.. ITV +64%, VWRD +27 year to date ITV + 1% VWRD +10.67% To be a bit fairer and to factor in the Gift that keeps on giving. ITV versus the FtMid caps 5 years ITV -42% VMID +24% 2 years ITV -14% VMID +14% 1 Year ITV +63% VMID +32% YTD ITV +1% VMID +12 The numbers do not lie padowan I had a look at HSBC that was being recommended elsewhere If you look at 8 years which is where HSBA seems to part company with the global index, HSBA has returned MINUS 18% and the Global Index returned PLUS 157%. I now assess any holdings against VWRD - If you can't beat a global tracker why would you want to get less and take on stock specific risk. Interestingly I know this to be true but I still trade UK stocks :)

marki agree it was public knowledge that talpa payments were duehowever imv it was handled very dubiously, there was no mention it when they made much of reducing debt, then they added the talpa payment on in the results and viola we were back to previous debt levels

Still not really with you accept that ITV has been a bad investment post mid 2016 - oh yes Brexit! Advertising market wide (not just ITV) went into reverse until very recently. Thankfully TV advertising markets are now recovering well - likely up 10% vs 2019.

Sorry don’t understand your post? Adam Crosier built up the studios side of the business - ITV raised money on the debt market to fund the series of global acquisitions. He left in 2017.

They are not making further acquisitions in the Studios area. It's just ongoing investment into the existing studios business.

Stansmith the Talpa payments were know and would have been in the valuation models.that is a red herring. Hades Not sure they can pay Talpa +Invest in Studios +Buy C4 +have sufficient working capital Without a rights. There is certainly a risk.

Time will tell but do accept the CH4 uncertainty won't be helping confidence although a rights issue is extremely unlikely - Could buy CH4 without it!

Hades MMs won't be taking positions in this for their own book not will they be shorting anything - it isn't what they do. IF Jeffreies are selling in auction it is on behalf of a client I think this move has been reasonably predictable. The divi wasn't reinstated and she has made several comments about wanting to buy C4. IF she bids on C4 it means a rights issue. They also want to invest in Studios ==> A rights issue as Talpa will empty the piggy bank. Looking at this I would say, "nothing to see here" Results 9 March 2022 so.......maybe look again in Feb. In the meantime.........

Well we have defended the trend line at 107p twice in the past few weeks. Hopefully should rise again and this time take out now lower 20day around 112p? Fingers and toes crossed. Lastly we obviously need to close above 107p in the auction.
