As an aside people always use the army term "brigade" as a negative thing but not squadron, or fleet, or regiment,
Not sure why brigade is always picked on.
Surely its not good English to always use the same military unit in a negative context and lets face it - brigade does now sound cringe making in that it is over used and passé.

If anyone needed a brain transplant more it’s this wkr.

Not one original thought or worthwhile comment in hundreds of posts.

The sale of CH4 is just daft.
But so was the US election of Donald Trump and us voting for Brexit.
This is the time of daft things happening, so who knows?
Although I do fear what comes next as the scarring can’t now be healed.
Sorry too deep for a Sunday night in August!

One assumes ITV Studios would provide the programming.Clearly that would destroy the UKs independent production business that CH4 currently support but I assume the Government consider this a price worth paying?

I know that at the results Q&A one of the questions was that if ITV bought Channel 4 it would give ITV an extra £1B in revenue. I thought that ITV's aim was to try and get away from having to rely on advertising not increasing it.

I think the final line in the Telegraph article is accurate.

“A spokesman for Discovery said the company was not preparing a bid for Channel 4 and is focused on its merger with WarnerMedia. Sky declined to comment.”

I my view the article itself is utter nonsense littered with inaccuracies but someone is certainly winding things up! - Probably a group supporting the Government selling/giving away of Channel4?
I seem to remember Mr Cummings suggesting that The Telegraph was the mouthpiece of a section within the Tory Party?

There is a reason it’s cheaper or in my has very little if any value.
They have no content and a tight public service remit.

Good work Hades. Channel 4 is a cheaper option than ITV, but with less content.

“Interesting side issue but does nobody realise that the controlling interest in Discovery Channel also own 9.9% of ITV?
Strange The Telegraph hasn’t realised John Malone is the controlling shareholder of both Discovery Communications and Liberty Global.
A combination of Discovery, WBTV, Virgin Media/o2, ITV and C4 would be a force - John Malone supported Brexit as did his friend Rupert Murdoch.
As incidentally did/does The Telegraph - pro Boris and Brexit.
Again strange.

No involvement from GS. Sorry about that.”

hades...thanks for the links. The article from the Fool by Roland Head was interesting and is fairly bullish for him, he normally paints a fair picture of companies he analyses but his piece on ITV is 80% bullish.

I only make mention of it as I rate RH's comments.

it just highlights the pickle itv and other non digital/unconnected traditional businesses are inif they dont pursue it, eventually they will become irrelevantif they are not making money doing it, it just becomes a costly strategic asset that they are stuck withwe can assume another 20m loss h2 for britbox, at what point does this turnaround, when they stop investing or subs reach X?

Britbox makes rational sense.
Th BBC want Americans and rest of the world to pay for BBC content but probably not big enough to go it alone (not sure). With BBC + ITV + Channel4 + Channel5 its possible more Americans (and rest of the world) will be willing to pay.
Not only that it takes viewing figures away from Netflix (etc) which appears to be working. Netflix are missing targets.
The downside of that is, if the valuation of Netflix falls then there probably is a knock-on negative affect on other media companies.

Also, I note, a lot of hot many moving into word "media" companies such as PEARSON, RELX, BLOOMSBURY and REACH.
In fact you could argue, with Bloomsbury's pull back that is looking a good point to get in..... Possibly (could fall more first).

lower ad spend due to economy or covid would be fine, changing trends not sopeople realising britbox is a waste of time is no use unless itv come to the same conclusion, that said it will be a cold day in hell before the board admit that..

Yes but it’s a market.
The market relies on all participants having and understanding identical information.
