25/2/2021 10:32 | I agree with the message that says CEOs are close to irrelevant and it's markets that drive companies like this. Constantly going on about Caroline or whatever he's called, as if he is a personally known acquaintance, is of no use in assessing ITV. Beware of people calling CEOs by cosy nicknames or first names, whether positively or negatively, as if they're best mates. It's often the hallmark of an investor who's fallen in love, or fallen in hate which is just as bad. Both emotions are damaging to objective investor assessment of a share. And I still fail to see why the activities of Goldman Sachs etc. are of the slightest interest in assessing ITV. Clearly I'm missing something but maybe that's because I'm interested only in the fundamentals and not CEOs and I only buy shares for their income stream. Also I think charts are close to a con that loses money, especially in the way they are used here to give ridiculously precise levels of predicted future price action. As for bid hopes, that story is so old that it has long since been shown to be nonsense, probably promoted by axe grinders. It could happen, as it could to any share, but I don't see it as a strong reason to buy or hold the shares. | anhar
25/2/2021 10:29 | hadesit will never amount to anything meaningfulimvshame the people who are always first to mention it just waffle about prospects or compare it to netflix and will never quantify anything about it | stansmith3
25/2/2021 10:25 | as predicted youve got to couch your britbox numbers as goodwhat are your numbers?what is good? | stansmith3
25/2/2021 09:23 | Have you been drinking ?? | ivanborsky
25/2/2021 09:15 | IB: I thought that last Friday then look what happened. The pattern is there is no pattern. No pattern pattern is of course a pattern (hence chaos theory). the reason day trading does not work is people look for pattern patterns not for no pattern patterns. | netcurtains
25/2/2021 08:50 | Time to bank a few profits here for me. Its tree shake Friday tomorrow and I very much doubt if GS and their mates want ITV back in the FTSE ahead of the review next week, and we also have the numbers on the 9th. Sell into the blue today for me and keep some in reserve just in case !!! | ivanborsky
25/2/2021 07:42 | I think britbox US figures, if good, will have a small bearing on the price. Companies like Netflix do have a market cap so figures for Britbox will also have a market cap. What those numbers are worth depends on the numbers. The main bearing on price with be the OUTLOOK statement. Everything is on OUTLOOK | netcurtains
24/2/2021 22:33 | Britbox will have no impact either way to March 9th. It’s a long term quantified, long over due and controlled investment. | hades1
24/2/2021 20:40 | net i would like to hear your britbox numbers, rather than just say britbox doing well or worse comparing it to netflix i note hades is the latest in a long line to be unable to back up their britbox claims.. | stansmith3
24/2/2021 20:31 | Net What people say here is just a views Including mine You are not an investor if you tossing a coin and x3 base on what people say Do your own research and share with us your view why you thinks this will reach 300+ On what basis? | stockready
24/2/2021 18:44 | So its agreed that - its 280 to 320 (as its always double what people say on ADVFN - its Godwin's Law of investing. | netcurtains
24/2/2021 18:34 | Nige There is always ways to make money in stock market Agreed perhaps different to 30 years ago but the key magic requirements is patient and sadly people jump ships without having any ideas why (or stay in dead ship for long ) and soon they realise there is always money to be made in high value stocks all the time but got to either wait or dump and move on when is the time. What i said above is general and i don't mean ITV is dead ship (yet) but if things continue like this it will be. I disagree with your valuation of 160, to be more realistic is 140 and i said that already in my post and i think it will get there BUT whether it will stay at that levwr or go up may be we should ask Carolyne to enlighten us with her innovative transformation she is planning (or not) I hope i don't offen anyone with my view and i respect and understand why you think this way. GLA IMHO | stockready
24/2/2021 17:35 | I don't mind reading negative comments Stan, if the poster's comments have substance. I personally think that ITV are worth a lot more than 113p. closer to 160p, so I won't be selling anytime soon, unless we receive a takeover bid. | nige co
24/2/2021 15:58 | Would be handy to close above 114p resistance level before the weekend. Then hopefully a clear run up next week into the results on Tuesday 9th March. | hades1
24/2/2021 13:51 | Stocksteady, it's good to hear a different opinion to my own. Do you hold a position in ITV? You're right to say never fall in love with a share. I've been invested in the stock market for over 37 years, seen a lot, made a decent profit over the years. I must say it's harder now to make a profit than say 20 years ago. Rightly or wrongly, I put this down to algo trades. | nige co
24/2/2021 13:03 | Stockready, I appreciate and respect your opinion mate. Through Covid McCall acted quickly to reduce costs and bring down net debt. Take a look at my post on 15th Jan? I was assured by a very good friend who used to work for ITV regarding ITV taking steps to defend themselves from a potential bid. This makes me think, hold on to ITV. Also, why have Liberty Global recalled their 9.9% shareholding from Goldman Sachs? There is a good reason behind this. I will be holding my shares for the foreseeable future. | nige co
24/2/2021 12:42 | There are more or less zero top CEOs etc etc. Companies are driven by markets, ITV is in fast growing media market. The demand for content is massive. Advertising is coming back huge. There is no need to over analysis all this. Its clear cut. ITV is a stonking buy. | netcurtains
24/2/2021 12:36 | Nige Thanks for your view and that is much appreciated First of all i don't base my argument only on charts! I highlighted in details why just making simple profit for one odd year will not be enough to save this company. Many companies are making profits but still their fundamental and RISKS are very high so their shares going nowhere, for me ITV is in the middle of huge sea (not a pond) and for them to remain competitive they need to change to what i highlighted above. Carolyne has not done anything substantial since taking the role, otherwise the price would have comfortably be above 200 (even now) and it is not! I agree with you that bigger player may take this over and change it and start doing that by hiring a new CTO who knows what he/she doing. I am not sure i agree with your valuation of 160 There is not enough fuel behind this IMHO However shorter term we might hit 140 with the hype of news of lifting the lockdown etc so by June this could get there but then market needs results and future directions. Otherwise we are heading down towards 80p to me. Fundamentals are not strong here and that is not just based on chart. I will be very nervous to put my money here even shorter term. So all i am saying is monitor this very closely every week as things can change very rapidly here But short termers will make money here but then be out. GLA | stockready
24/2/2021 11:55 | Stockready, before Covid struck ITV were expected to report improving revenue in 2020, so doesn't Carolyn McCall take credit for that? It wasn't her fault that Covid came along. Regarding charts, if you look at the chart of most company's you will see that the Covid crash started the week commencing 17/2/20 (it's the same chart for a lot of share prices) WC 17/2/20 the ITV share price was at 136p. If you want to go back even further at Christmas Eve 2019 ITV share price closed at 152.75p. So it could be argued that at the end of the year markets knew about Covid and started the decline well before the impact of the crash on 17/2/20. I don't base my ITV valuation on charts, charts are only a guide of the share price history, that tells us nothing about the future, that's not to say that I don't look at charts to see if a chart is about to breakout of it's trading range, charts do work for one reason, a lot of people act on what the chart is doing ie. if a chart is breaking upwards buyers act on this info, IMO. My fair value of ITV is 160p. I also believe that there will be consolidation in the media sector, ITV are only a very small fish in a large pond, I believe someone will swallow up ITV at some point in the future. JMO. | nige co
24/2/2021 11:51 | Just to add ITV hardly moved over this fantastic news of road map out of the lockdown , if this news hardly moved it, then what other news you are expecting to move this upwards? These are all excuses, itv lost the directions they have to start being a international player and to become a global organisation WHICH CAN MAKE IMPACT and not just be restricted to UK and silly repeatative programme which quickly goes out of fassion. They need to show their strong presence in english speaking countries first and that should go beyond just news and silly programs They need to become a next Netflix as well as being a media and news player, that is if they want to survive and if Carolyne reading this perhaps she can use my idea and implement it and do somethint. Sadly i doubt she ever will...they lost the plot IMHO I am even surprised how this is even hanging at the current level! GLA DYOR | stockready
24/2/2021 11:49 | Its looking good to me for £1.80 Hopefully. Touchwood. Lets just see how it goes. EUROs definitely look good. England V Scotland | netcurtains
24/2/2021 11:17 | Nige_co will be banging the ITV drum until his 1.60 average is reached. Reality is that Carolyn has presided over failure even if you were to take into account COVID. I agree with your top of 1.40 and then a slow decline perhaps not to 80 but at 100p. Only a bid will save this ship. | panos_berks |
