Rise on Tuesday was most probably down to the excellent write up by Edison Research.
Price target, near term , of 100/110p and if the high growth is factored in, 150p.

There's no stock on offer and they're bidding inside the price in size.Someone clearly accepts the recent statement at face value.Hey,maybe someone actually spoke to the company!!

So what would you say is driving the current trend at the moment?

It doesn't seem to be showing signs of abating.

I've read your posts, but they all seem to generally berate the company in the hope that you can pick up a bargain once it hits *your* desired price.

what does anyone know, except those on the inside?

never said it was not. I hold if you read the posts. just feel right now that its over valued, but what do I know?

If the downside is significant, then why are you lurking around if your view and comments suggest that the company doesn't represent a good investment?

Comparing results for the interim adjusting for exceptional gain

Profits this year interim £0.9m prior year £1.7m minus £0.7m = £1m

So profits were down by £0.1 but we do know launch costs were quite high with admin costs rising by over £300k so overall performance was OK as the admin costs would presumably have covered the launch costs, The statement issued by the company merely reaffirms the progress.,

I know that but recognise that ratios are predicated on EPS.PE relatives ,PEGs etc all revolve around the net profit ,the f"ing attributable profit to shareholders.Dividend cover is referenced to EPS cover not bloody PBT which was never mentioned in the RNS of a couple of days ago.

Pretax profit is a nice little banner headline for people who can't appreciate the difference between gross salary and take home pay.

Actually steeplejack, if you look at brokers forecasts, the main items forecast are PBT, EPS and DPS.

Companies/Management in general can and will issue RNSs to give the impression of a better performance and what is actually taking place because they know a large portion (in terms of quantity of participants) of the investing population don't understand the intricacies of the accounting reports - I'm sure that nobody would deny that. What then happens is that donkey analysts and stock pimpers of various forms then quote the juicy bits in an attempt to build up the share price on weak foundations and the management don't have to keep an eye on a depressed share price which doesn't reflect well on them yet may be a true reflection of performance.

Where you get this PRETAX PROFIT in line from ,i don't know. There's no mention of PBT,unless you're assuming that PBT is one of the "parameters" referred to by the company. You know that analysts aren't that interested in pretax profits, that's really for the press, nice little banner figure.PBT takes no account of tax and thus pays no attention to the ultimate cash flow running through the business. You live on after tax earnings albeit you might reference to your pretax income.

This is a wee company and those have not been in flavour over last couple of years, liquidity concerns etc.Institutions happier to hold bigger folk and of course ,private clients nerves shot to hell.I reckon the stock's worth a quid but it might not get there for a year.

So why is PBT only in line then?

The Edison research note on the ISP website is worth a scan if not read already.Written last June, somewhat historic, but it does address itself to the question of tax charges.Actually in 2010,with the end of the deferred recognition of a tax credit coming to an end in 2009,the accounts will show the actual tax charge. In simple terms the tax charge will go in to positive territory which will depress EPS declared. However,Edison have produced "normalised" eps to make them comparable. So forget a favourable tax rate benefiting eps ,it's the exact opposite!
This Edison note was written in cooperation with the company and thus the company is well aware of the "normalized" eps calculations produced by the broker. Thus i reckon you can assume that the company's TRADING performance has exceeded broker expectations.

boll,

When the right numbers appear in the results then I'll change my opinion, not before. The interims were disappointing, the progress of Variquel in the US was disappointing, and from what's happened recently in support of their strategy I think that the forthcoming prelims will be disappointing in terms of the expectations which the management have set.

There were quite a few wondering what the share price was doing in the high 50's recently but for me that range is justified (so yes, if you want to call it trying to talk the shares down) until the company demonstrates that it's returned to improving results as per their intentions and ambitions.

I'm expecting that it'll all turn out nice eventually (particularly when all the debt is eventually paid off) so that long-term holders are duly rewarded for their patience, but I don't assume that management is doing a great job behind the scenes when some of the numbers and actions indicate otherwise. I also consider having the price down below the recent placings as being a good thing for PIs as well as some compensation for the then discounted dilutions which took place to create ISPH.

gogoneko I think you are trying to talk the shares down . The management of the company are delivering their strategy and the recent disposal supports their strategy. They are delivering the goods and are focused on getting the brands sold in their key European markets rather than trying to crack a difficult US market directly. For me what they are doing works and i look forward to future announcements and in particular seeing a reduction in the very high level of launch and other regulatory approval costs so that we can see a quantum increase in profits
