A statement of the obvious and totally as expected with a reiteration of aims. What else did anyone expect? If they are going to do better in H2 why tell us now with the potential to disappoint down the line given the geopolitical and economic turmoil the world is experiencing. There was a small chance that H1 would not deliver on pretty dire expectations, we no longer have to worry about that so we got what we were promised and there really is little else to say. What is comforting ( for me) is that the future world and it’s technologies IS going to be totally dependent on compound semiconductors…;..and that’s what IQE does. S

As predicted trading in line with expectations. No real news in TU. No change in 2022 forecast either.

Not new but from iqe LinkedIn feed today 200mm (8”) VCSEL wafers for compound semiconductors are a true breakthrough – and we were excited to announce the industry’s first commercially available examples, just last month. But how specifically is this going to help our customers, across the wireless, sensing and display markets? It’s all about wider adoption, economies of scale, and lower costs for compound semiconductors. Bigger wafers also mean we can expand to new foundry partnerships, including silicon-based foundries, and it enables the integration of compound semiconductors on silicon. When IQE scaled VCSEL epiwafers from 100mm to 150mm, back in 2017, it made more markets economically viable for compound semiconductors, such as 3D sensing in smartphones. Now, shifting to 200mm opens up more opportunities, into a broad range of intelligent connected devices, as macro trends such as #5G and the #Metaverse drive demand for compound semiconductors. If speedex are looking to clear that could create good upwards pressure here. I wonder if all these 2-3m trades over last week or so was them. Below 3% so we will never know now. We can't be more than a week away from a TU. I doubt they will wait much. 22nd latest? Maybe even end of this week? 19th last time? Either way even if it is bad news I think most of it has already been factored in. If they are not meeting target it will likely be small margins with likely bigger upsides in long term. 23-24 the question is when big new orders will start to arrive. Medium term sounds like a few years. Maybe 2024 is the year they start to ramp up more seriously.

GlobalFoundries, STMicro to build chip plant in FranceSTMicroelectronics and GlobalFoundries Inc. announced on Monday plans to set up a new chip manufacturing facility in France, which will be jointly funded by the government. The plant is expected to reach a full capacity of 620,000 18-nanometers chips, widely used in the electronics and auto industries, per year by 2026. Some estimates suggested the investment was worth around €5.64 billion. The production site aims to employ about 1,000 people, the release added. "We will have more capacity to support our European and global customers as they transition to digitalization and decarbonization," STMicroelectronics CEO Jean-Marc Chery noted.

I interpret this as a reduction in Spreadex Ltd's short position in IQE from 3.48% to 2.50%. Anyone else see it differently?

I think the IQE share price in the next 1-2 years is now linked to the success of 8” (of which we apparently have a decent head start) and the pick up of the Chinese (in particular) 5G roll out. The fact that 8” enables a mass adoption of VCSELs at a cheaper price point “should” enable decent growth for calendar year ‘23 earnings. Finally all these billions of IOT devices should start to utilise IQEs product, so exponential growth is possible albeit at lower price point.

Exactly, Crosswires - i don't believe these 'jam the year after tomorrow' products will make a meaningful impact on the bottom line for many years, if indeed they take off. Gone are the days when the share price jumped in response to 'potential new markets'. Of the 10m projected unit sales over the next 4 years, how much is the vcsel content (maybe $5 per unit?) and how much of this is the wafer cost(maybe $0.50?). After all, aren't we still waiting for those ground-changing HAMR discs that were promised 3-4 years ago? Some products take off, others don't - or become obsolete before they even hit the market. I'd be surprised if the share price is significantly influenced currently by anything other than their bread and butter products/markets.

I would suggest 40p right now is a realistic 6 month target that could be exceeded if Sept forward guidance is positive, perhaps at that point 50-60p is realistic. However there is every chance that IQE will not guide up too much from their low single digit growth of this period imo and far too many broker targets remain too high imo, unless they think of them as lifetime ones ;) Encouraging that Deutsche see the stock as a “buy”, perhaps they can see the clouds starting to lift with Americo at the helm… Lords, agreed, and that’s why it is expected to be a relatively (for Apple) niche product until later in the decade. It will need to get down to iPhone Pro pricing before it takes off

I think Apple is going to face increasing headwinds, trying to sell expensive discretionary items at a time when everyone has less cash. $2-3000 ballpark - what planet are they on?

Slightly disappointing shipment predictions from Ming Chi Kuo re the AR/MR Apple headset. Prediction is 10m units by 2025/2026. Initial cost is the main part of the reason and it won’t be until 2025 (two years after Gen1) when the 2nd Gen will come out at a more reasonable price point. Gen1 is thought to be in the $2-3000 ballpark. Compared to the iphone Pro sales (which have Face ID) it looks like volume won’t be huge (ie hundreds of millions) until the end of the decade.
