The barriers some platforms impose in providing proof of share ownership (particularly with nominee accounts) can make it hard to attend AGMs (or even to submit questions remotely). Which is a major pain, particularly if the company concerned loses questions that are submitted online.

More on that important announcement from Analog Devices Inc yesterday.

Lumentum comment
More exciting news for Lumentum! 🤩 We’re working with Analog Devices, Inc. to provide #VCSEL arrays for #LiDAR and #3Dsensing applications for their newest product, ADTF3175 module.

Check out what Lumentum’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of #3DSensing, Téa Williams said about this news 👀:

“We are thrilled to work with ADI on solutions for the industry’s most demanding and highest resolution 3D sensing applications, ranging from extended reality to industrial applications like robotics, intelligent buildings, and logistics systems.”

Seems that that relationship extends well beyond the announcement and that of course is very good news for IQE

RE IQE Q&A
NONE of my questions were answered which was bewildering, so I have contactedAmy Barlow at IQE and it transpires their IT dept has no record of receiving them despite being mailed to the URL given, I provided evidence that they were indeed sent on the 16th June.
I have requested they answer the questions which I think will be of interest to most here. I shall be as insistent as I need to be 😉, when they respond I shall share.

Umicore supply the germanium substrate for IQE VCSELS,

In November 2020 Umicore said this “ Congratulations to IQE for their VCSEL-on-Germanium breakthrough #innovation!
Umicore is proud of being part of this exciting project with our dislocation free #germanium wafers

At the same time IQE announced

Of course last month we got news of the 200mm VCSEL wafer

Looks like Germanium is the way to go for all things VCSEL related

Later on this morning Andrew Johnson of IQE is giving this talk at the Compound Semiconductor International conference in Brussels’ VCSELs: Switching the substrate to improve production’

Good presentation from Americo .The Lumentum deal will add more certainty to volumes and turnover. Would appear they are looking to further rationalise manufacturing to be more efficient, so expect more exceptional costs. I guess they will issue the same guidance for H2 as previous but I expect the growth to come in 2023 onwards. Surprised the analysts would bother to attend and not ask a question

Thank you. We are all here to make some cash. The journey will be interesting if the debate keeps flowing. Some will be of a higher quality but it wIll all make us think a little deeper.

Still not found answers to questions. The webcast is just slides. They clearly don't want world and dog to hear what happened. Least I am asking questions. As investor we should be holding a loss making firm to account!

Maybe they are trying to turn a corner here. They are gradually tweaking and fixing things as they come across them be it up fromnt picture to investors or relations with customers. IQE will know what people think. I suspect the market is still waiting for news to shift the share price but the share is sticking to 36p quite well and you can be sure a few funds would of been watching today. I think Richard will be here for the long ride too. He will know the downside risk here is low. The upsides long term will eventually come through.

Assuming no one else in the world can do what IQE do? You can bet China will want a big piece of this industry.

Indiestu

I apologise for my earlier post

Despite massive effort, the stop, breathe, think, reflect and don’t respond mechanism seems to fly out of the window on occasions- not good on my part!
But at least I don’t punch people in the nose anymore 😉.

I'm glad you think it's casual Lords. I would have fallen on the sword if I couldn't get back for the AGM I called. Or, I would of rescheduled it to suit me. Chairman has lost control to AM. Thank God.

After that £95m placing in 2017, they really shouldn't be needing another fund raise. Shame the AGM didn't address where all this money went. Does Phil Smith have an Austrian bank account or something (only joking Phil!). On a serious note though, given global flight disruption currently, wouldn't you - as Chair of a listed company - build in more leeway to get home in time for the AGM? I'm not aware of the circumstances of course and it could have been a last minute family emergency for all I know. But barring that, to me it would suggest a certain casualness. Which given Smith's so far limited contribution to IQE's fortunes, I'd have thought he could ill afford.

3x in existing footprint means using the Welsh site to full capacity. They have a production facility already built and the world is apparently screaming for IQE products. Based on comments this makes me pretty sure they will look to raise money and expand Welsh site in next 1-3 years.

When you filter out everything you don't want to hear you resign yourself to your own opinion. I think it is called confirmation bias.

“We have the opportunity to grow our business by 3 x in our existing footprint” Americo Lemos AGM 2022.

That indeed should be our target, nice to hear our CEO spell it out. Now it’s easy to have a target and miss it but the first step is having something as a common goal to strive for. Never heard Drew talk like this.

I also like that Tim and Americo mention increasing margins and the importance of LT strategic partnerships to help with visibility and hopefully deleting these peaks and troughs of the past.

Lastly Americo says with regards to increasing wafer sizes and therefore cheaper cost to customers “Imagine if every phone has a 3D sensing capability”. Imagine indeed, within 5 years I suspect that will happen…

Nice announcement from Analog Devices about an IQE enabled ( via Lumentum) new product 🙂 these devices are just what the CEO is talking about, I particularly liked his comment referring to smartphones having a3D capability, meaning of course augmented reality, this will be enabled by new display technologies and of course Porotech is ahead of the game…by a significant margin 🙂

Yes, thanks for that summary Sweenoid. Though I wouldn't agree it was ‘huffing and puffing’ to say "the proof will be in the future earnings and increasing business relationships". At times, all companies excel in painting a rosy outlook. Some achieve it. Others don't. IQE's track record has been extremely poor, which is why many investors remain sceptical. Despite Lemos making a promising start and talking of improved margins, I still say show me the money. That said, I AM more cautiously optimistic.
