I think that's a classic way that shorts are placed. Multiple small placings in rapid succession. If a short were to be placed in a large chunk then this could push the share price down and wouldn't benefit the shorter who needs to get the maximum number of shares sold at the highest price possible.

Are you referring to Coltrane doing a deal which should be to borrow not to lend shares?

Just for the record, one of the favourite deals by Hedge Funds is to borrow stock in one company to sell and to reinvest the proceeds in another company where they feel there is a greater likelihood of capital appreciation.

For example sell IQE and with the proceeds buy VRS.

There is no point Cheek212 hoping the SHORTS burn in hell when he has no idea why they are shorting or what they are doing with their money!

Perhaps this is a way of Coltrane raising money quickly. So they do a deal to lend about a further one million shares, then sell them into the market for say 750k sterling. They suffered a large loss when interserve went into liquidation. They must hope that the shares are going to fall in time, but it seems to me a desperate attempt to raise liquid funds. That's my take on it.

Went down well in most of the clubs in Brighton - so I've been told.
