You guys are totally under-estimating the current interest in the USA
One of Our biggest investors is T Rowe Price a US global asset management company. I will reiterate that Phil Rasmussen our CFO said at the AGM in June that he was almost inundated with interest and enquiries from US investors who he said 'fully understood the proposition and markets involved'. Drew Nelson's recent presentation at the Conacord Growth conference was well received. IQE management are fully focused on benefitting from this US interest,

IQE has 3 facilities in 3 different states in the US, it's biggest customers are stateside,I believe it's naive to believe we are not firmly on the investor 'radar' and I am not talking of PI's and traders buying and selling a few here and there. I would guess that there are at least 2-3 US 'houses' with holdings very close to a notifiable level.

Any retrace will be healthy for next week. No stock would go up indefinitely without a correction.

Sweenoid - I am sure that you and others are capable of clicking a link. Sadly there are others here who have shown themselves incapable of doing so - judging by posts that raise questions already answered in very recently linked stories.

Links don't always immediately convey the significance of the item they are linking to. (In some case - such as post 5341 - they convey a dreadfully false impression)

I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect a massive influx of US interest in IQE stock. With an average market cap of <£100M, the AIM market is probably off the radar for them, it's probably seen as a market for junior or somewhat risky shares, which was the case historically, although not so much these days. The fact that it requires less regulation that a main market share might also be off-putting. Many US based exec-only companies may not even deal on it.

You'd imagine that there would be some rule that forced companies into a more rigously monitored full listing, however that is clearly not the case, given that ASOS for example is AIM listed, even though it's current market cap would put it into the FT100.

If Kevin Godbold thinks the forward P/E for 2018 is 'a little over 37', then he's assuming an almost unbelievably low eps of only 3.75p next year. If that's all it is by then it will be very disappointing indeed and make Peel Hunt's view, that 10p or more is quite possible, look very silly indeed. There is clearly some wild guessing going on here and one or other, or perhaps both but in different directions, are way out.

Grabster - do you think any of us here are incapable of clicking on dpmeyers link?, sorry folks but that's another one of my gripes - why oh why post the 'contents' of a link when the link will suffice, it just uses up acres of space- moans over.

good post from DP, I was one of those buying when momentum and sentiment were decidedly against IQE, we were being shafted by shortens and despite much of the present business plan and prospects being obvious, the sentiment was dire. I totally agree that positivity begets.....positivity.

Whilst I expect IQE to deliver an optimistic bullish statement a week today ( the H1 results are almost immaterial imho), I think the 'management of expectations game' with the analysts is just as important. IQE will want to be beating estimates in the IMS in December, so I will view the guidance given as conservative ;-)

Have been 'off' Apple for a while, was getting a bit stale and boring, not helped by their perfidious treatment of IMG . However iPhone8 changes all that because it+iOS11+ARkit+3D sensing enables THE NEXT BIG THING - Augmented reality or AR which will enable the next and perhaps biggest range of innovation we have seen in smartphones. True facial recognition is of course also key for various applications but it's in AR that iPhone8 will stand out.Whilst the uninformed will seek to find 'direct relationships' between Apple and IQE, intelligent investors and commentators will soon get the message of IQE's pivotal place in this new technology. ( I don't think Apple ever even acknowledged IMG, let alone credited its IP!) The buzz from 2 weeks today at the launch through Xmas when it will still be in short supply is 'bread from heaven' for IQE's SP
Of course, and dependent on its success iPhone8 will spoon a whole family of 3D sensing iPhones and Android clones.

Am liking the share price at this level prior to next week - I simply don't 'get' Potential's one liners, breathe and relax and think of 2018. My 'cheap as chips' buy under 165p is likely to turn out to be a 'steal' at that level, but I can wait, a nice steady climb with a consolidation here and there suits me fine and also keeps the traders and Chartists happy too :-)

In my defense, hair removal IS relevant to IQE. It's on their website with a picture of a girl removing hair from her legs. Okay, we had a bit of fun on a bank holiday Monday which got a bit out of hand but, if they have it on their website, they must be selling into that market. When I looked into it more, it was astonishing how big that market seems to be. So, seriously, it does seem possible, that unknown to most of us, IQE may have another significant income stream.Xylos

I have just posted about IQE on Advfn's U.S. sister site - in their 'Momentum Runners' category:

Others here are welcome to respond there.

(I looked at setting up a formal LSE:IQE stock discussion thread there, but it appears that one has to upgrade to paid subscriber to do that?)

Full text of that Kevin Godbold article:

Back in the tech-bubble madness of 2000, shares in IQE (LSE: IQE) briefly touched 750p. Today, after multi-bagging from its lows, the stock changes hands for around 141p, but I reckon it has a decent shot at fulfilling the potential seen by stock market speculators almost 20 years ago because the underlying business is growing fast.

The future of semiconductors
The company manufactures and supplies advanced wafer products and services to the semiconductor industry globally. Through a process and technology known as epitaxy, IQE combines different semiconducting elements to make more advanced semiconductor materials, which are called compound semiconductors.

According to the firm, many people in the industry believe the future of semiconductors will focus on combining the advanced properties of compound semiconductors with silicon in a hybrid technology known as Compound Semiconductors On Silicon – a complex technology in which IQE has been a pioneer for over 10 years.

The directors say the firm has accumulated a “powerful portfolio of intellectual property (IP) including patents and trade secrets.” They are optimistic and say the company’s strong pedigree in high tech manufacturing “uniquely positions the firm to commercialise this IP over the coming years and decades.”

Strong revenues growth
In a trading update on 20 July, the company told us it had seen strong growth in revenues in the first half, which the directors reckon is due to increased demand for Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) wafers for mass-market consumer applications. When the directors of any company use words such as ‘mass-market’ when describing demand for their products, it’s bound to stir the animal instincts of even the most conservative of investors!

The firm has galvanised itself into action to cope with what it expects will be higher levels of demand going forward. The directors reckon the start of the ramp up for VCSEL wafers marks an inflection point in the commercialisation of the technology. There they go again – inflexion point – another phrase that suggests the potential is huge and that profitable growth is about to make a quantum leap forward.

Multiple contract wins
Indeed, IQE has nailed down “multiple, multi-year contracts” towards the growth of VCSEL, which the directors say reflects the firm’s strong competitive advantages, technology leadership and proven track record in delivering wafers into high volume consumer markets. The development of an expansion plan comes hard on the heels of the firm’s higher investment during the first half of 2017, which itself was designed to prepare for higher levels of growth in the second half. Part of the expansion plan has led to IQE agreeing heads of terms for the lease of new premises in South Wales.

Chief executive Dr Drew Nelson said in July’s update that “the first half of 2017 has been a very exciting time for the IQE Group.” He reckons the firm has “multiple high-growth opportunities ahead,” and it almost went without saying that he expected to exceed market expectations for 2017. Unusually, he went further and thinks it possible “a more significant upgrade to current market expectations could be delivered for 2018.”

I couldn’t resist the improving long-term fundamental story here, so I bought some of the shares last week. However, with a forward price-to-earnings ratio running a little over 37 for 2018, this will be a scary ‘hold’ for me. We’ll find out more with the interim statement due on 5 September.

A link to a new Motley Fool article just came up on my screen:

Given Sweenoid's sensible exhortation to posters (which I echo) I ought to explain why it's worth a look. There's no great technical analysis in the note (but equally, no glaring howlers such as those we've seen recently). I think it merits a scan because it catches the sentiment behind some of the momentum we've seen, and which we hope to continue.

Others here understand the IQE technology, manufacturing process and markets far better than me but I think all of us who've been around for a while recognise that sentiment can be as important as simple prospects. Otherwise this share probably would have taken off a few years ago, when several of us saw the potential. I'm therefore pleased to see articles like the Motley Fool note, because they open up an area which is daunting to many, in a simplified manner.

Not to be confused with "The Ford Probe", which was another sleek model that I once had the misfortune to own, I hear that Ford are about to introduce a new recycled retro model ... The Ford Pube.

The Ford Pube is, by all accounts, being assembled using old Corsairs. For those old enough to know !!

Anyway, I'm finding all this pubic hair talk a little bit vulva, to be honest, so I'm off out on the bike.

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome, I truly appreciate it. I was reticent to comment because there are so many on this board that are so well informed and so well spoken, but I just wanted to tip my hat and say hello. I will keep my ear to the ground over here and post as I hear things...as the saying goes, I'm betting the farm on IQE and I truly believe that great things are coming!!!
