You may want to try and get in contact with them, just to find out if they are still up and running and not just filtering off money!

Roach latest

-. In a US-centric global economy, the Fed has become the world's central bank, and America's carry trade has morphed into the global carry trade.

This phenomenon underscores what I believe is the biggest risk today in world financial markets and the global economy. Courtesy of its post-equity bubble containment strategy, the Fed has taken the carry trade to an unprecedented extreme --

--In a world of mean reversion, those risks are personified in the form of the inevitable unwinding of the carry trade. In my view, the December FOMC minutes suggest that the Fed is now testing the waters for just such an exit strategy (see my 7 January dispatch, "Game Over?").--

Joe Moon,
Please, trade the Dow.
But my meaningful trading is in the Junior mining sector right now.
Let's look at it on a Return, % drawdwon basis

I see in a Bloomberg article via ADVFN Headlines that Mr John Snow the US Treasury Secretary has stated that the US Government will not intervene in the Dollars fall which is different to what he implied a week or two ago. This is good news I feel as an orderly slow devaluation down to a level that encourages more domestic production and a greatly reduced balance of payments & budget deficits are what is needed to prevent collapse. Tricky though because further falls in the Dollars value might lead to a slide but I don't think that the 'Gnomes of Zurich' or highly Dollar geared nations like the Japanese will allow it? Time will tell.
We in Britain have the same problem, as do the Aussies but stable World trade does not depend upon our currencies.
I think that the G8 nations ought to insist upon the Chinese currency floating freely also, rather than being pegged to the USD.

-re request for milestones on ONCY
-the following is gathered from a report on the ONCY web-site

click on Equicom research profile.
The report was dated 19th August 2004, and the following events were expected in the next 12-18 monmths. Therefore it is a reasonable approximation to suggest these events are expected in 2005.
They are:

Clinical results from on-going UK systemic administration study

Initiation of US systemic administration clinical study

Commencement of US NCI-sponsored clinical trials

Initation of combination therapy clinical studies

Results from ongoing Canadian phase 1/11 malignant glioma clinical study

Initiation of US glioblastoma clinical study.

The above list is nott exhaustive!
ONCY has a market cap of around £78m, with something like £15m+ in cash, cash burn is relatively modest.
NCI= National Cancer Institute of US, a prestigious body, they are paying for the NCI trials mentioned above.
Trials also on-going at Royal Marsden and St Georges in the UK. Royal Marsden is, i think, the largest cancer centre in Europe.

Nope any Biotechs that can be traded.

I will put out a request on the Oncy thread for 2005 Milestones, as I have been on their thread and can't find anything.

nice thread

-don't know if you are limited to UK bios....how about a company that has a potential cure for 70% of all cancers, is running trials in the UK (Royal Marsden and St Georges) and has links with UK listed Cobra.
-Company is Oncolytics Biotech, Canadian based, listed on Nasdaq and Toronto.

Thanks for the link Bhg; another good article. Personally, I have been predicting a collapse in the value of the USD for twenty years or more but maybe it's a bit like a supertanker; slow to stop. One of the main reasons I think, for its stability is that it has been used increasingly over those years (and probably since the last World War) as the main 'currency of the World' being used for commodity and other trading to such an increasing extent that more and more have been printed. Also, there is so much USD denominated debt around the World that it is not in bankers or government's interest to allow it to collapse? However, there will come a time, (unless the US Government takes firm action soon) when the USD will no longer be considered safe payment and that is when it is likely to collapse, like the German Deutschmark towards the end of the Second World War. I no longer try and predict when; might be 2005 or it might be 2025 but with an increasing number of economists predicting 'doom and gloom' it might be sooner rather than later, especially if the Bush administration continue to ignore the problem like 'Nero fiddled while Rome burned'?
I also think that Gordon Brown was plain stupid to have sold off a lot of Britains Gold Reserves when he did. If the USD does collapse then I doubt that people will want to rely upon 'paper money' like the Euro as a substitute?

Prophets Of Doom

Doom For The Dollar--And Everything Else

--"This week, we give voice to five prophets of doom, starting with Peter Schiff, CEO and chief global strategist of Euro Pacific Capital.

Could the falling dollar mean we're in for a major financial disaster? He thinks so." --

Excellent article Briarberry, thanks.
I share Mr Roach's concerns and hope that the USD will be allowed to drop further against the Asian currencies and a more responsible US fiscal policy, in order to avoid an eventual 'Perfect Storm' or 'meltdown' that is likely to be bad for people the World over.
