If they got the court approval, they're ex. If they didn't, they're not. Market seems to be taking a 50:50 approach!

Correct - they should be suspended whilst this is sorted.

It should have been x today, but I cannot see confirmation that the High Court has sanctioned the Capital Reduction. The shares should be suspended pending clarification.

Thanks skyship but still no mention of taxation.

I understand this is a capital return and not a dividend but I asked this same question on the CGT thread because NSN are also returning capital. The feedback I got was the cash distribution is treated as income but you will likely realise a large capital loss when you sell which may compensate. As I said there this doesn't make much sense (especially if you are a higer rate tax payer) and Im a bit sceptical. But then again how can you work out a capital gain (or loss) in this case. Can anyone explain?

BTW. Got email from TDWaterhouse. Apparently the cash distribution is a done deal and accounts to be credited shortly.

Anyone know the tax treatment here. Is the cash return treated as income and you effectively have an associated capital loss if you sell after the distribution?

He doesn't beneficially own those shares. It is proxy voting rights for the AGM (see the notes).
