UBS lifts target price for Invensys

Stephen Swanton, analyst at UBS, has increased his target price for technology business Invensys (ISYS.L), having finally been convinced that the company has become a realistic acquisition target.

The analyst said the current share price looks reasonable having fallen over the past few months, and news of a takeover bid from US rival Emerson offers reason for optimism.

'Despite being sceptics for the past seven years, we cannot ignore that Invensys was approached byEmerson in May,' he said. 'Although we do not know why talks broke down, we see several events that 'could' catalyse a sale of Invensys, namely 1) Emerson's lockup ending 2) A new third-party approach and 3) the possibility that pension disposal costs decrease.'

Swanton said his valuation for the company ranges from 137p (dilutive pension disposal plus no acquisition) to 385p (the bull-case scenario with lots of bidders showing interest).

Shares in the group, for which Swanton has a target price of 280p, up from 240p previously, closed at 255p on Monday, up 1.4p or 0.55%.
