Lots of sells today then - well one!!! Must have been yours Chiva20 !! Or was that Coolchilli going short. Now can't have been both of you !! I suspect neither of you!!

Anway quite interesting to see a number of buys - even with a large 15pt spread at 8am. If you are prepared to buy with that spread, either you don't have a clue or you expect a 10%+ rise imminently.

Trading statement due in the next couple of days. Word on the street is that another acquisition on the cards v. soon...

That said, the people problems posted a while back scare me away from a buy position. While strong on sales, they seem to lack any operational experience.

The way to make money from IPH is to go short in my view. share price will be closer to 100p than 200p, mark my words.

Mo123...thanks for that.

The uptrend has started and looks to me the share price could gallop from here judging by the chart.Any positive news would propel the share price to a new trading range well above 200p imo

From Sunday Herald yesterday buy tip section

While a tiddler in stock market terms, Interactive Prospect Targeting Holdings is gaining from its position as Europe's leading online direct marketing services agency and recent contracts include a deal to handle the email marketing campaign for the French national lottery.

Followers say the shares have yet to fully reflect prospects at their present 179p and look for profits to double from £2.6m this year with £8m in prospect for 2007-08. That latter figure could prove conservative with new products due to be launched in the UK and France in the coming weeks and the likelihood of further acquisitions.

RNOW didn't post much newsflow either until it released interim results in Nov 06. I held there (but sold too early after the results) . I have no inside knowledge but in the current market these guys operate in - and in light of no adverse news - I'll give them the benefit just as I did RNOW.

IMHO this is a low risk small downside vs high probability larger upside play. I bought last week. DYOR

And they are in my StockChallenge top 5 for Jan.

Read into my posts what you will Selet, the only problem IPT has it that it has not posted much newsflow, previous to that the newsflow has been very encouraging.

I believe the share price has drifted out of boredom, and I feel holders will be rewarded for their patience. IPH is well positioned to profit heavily being first to market (before TMN) and having diversified product ranges (beyond YOU) each of which are market leading. I know nothing out of the ordinary, I just strongly believe this company knows what it's doing and exciting times are ahead.

Why? Little news flow, a share price that is little more than 15% above it's early 2006 level and the wrong sort of noises, reading between the lines of the share fall from the heights of £2.40, suggest that there's not a great deal to get excited about. Meanwhile, it's peers, notably TMN and YOU (a 3 and 5 bagger from late 2005/2006 respectively), go from strength to strength. Are you ramping or do you know something worth knowing?

Chivas...Shares? Care to post what they have to say as their main conclusion?

This move suggests we could break away from the narrow trading range pretty sharpish

Is there a direct marketing organisation that has decent management as distinct from a visionary CEO entrepreneur and a bunch of commission-oriented salesmen?

t0p :

No!

Or if there is I don't know it.

Strategic thinking goes as far - at best - as the end of the next sales cycle, and there is little or no long term committed revenue. The sector seems to attract people who don't seem to be committed to building long term businesses - they just seem interested in the short term hit. That is why historically they have been risky investments, although that's not to say that people haven't made money from some of them. (These are general comments about the sector rather than a specific one about IPH).

If you're in this sector I think the best strategy is to spot the shooting star as it takes off and get out before it burns out, which can be quite a short period. It will be a while before we know whether the burn out started at around 2.40, or whether it can recover, but until the picture becomes clearer it remains a 'Watch' : but, from my point of view, the more it falls from here the less I'm prepared to take the risk inherent in the short term recovery.

I totally agree and your point about quality of management is spot on. Is there a direct marketing organisation that has decent management as distinct from a visionary CEO entrepreneur and a bunch of commission-oriented salesmen?

I think news on France is crucial. France is historically a very difficult place for an Anglo centric company to do business in (especially in the marketing services sector), and, as far as I'm aware, no-one at this company has hands on experience of running a French company sucessfully. As one example, I can't help feeling that their UK 'personnel' policy - which tends to focus on the short term - will be very expensive if translated into French, because of employment law. Also, the market for these services is a lot less developed in France so I can see a significant dilution in earnings.

My concerns are that the UK senior management - which is in any event very thin - will spend an increasing amount of time trying to sort out France. This in turn will take them of the UK business which depends for its success on active day-to-day senior management involvement.

All IMHO but these are the concerns I have and it remains on the 'Watch' rather than 'Buy' list until I hear more - from the company, not some hapless PR agency guy who is seldom on the inside track. There is no doubt that the sector has massive growth potential, but at the moment I'm not convinced that this is the safest way of investing in it.
