A floating charge has been registered by HSBC at Companies House. This strongly suggests that we are in the process of obtaining some form of debt facility.

Firstly, I think it is very good news that a traditional lender such as HSBC sees us as creditworthy and we have clearly been able to demonstrate to them a repayment ability. At very least we will have had to demonstrate cash flow positivity in the near term.

Secondly, although cash flow positivity is close at hand it will take 12 to 18 months to get to the position where we are generating sufficient levels of free cash flow to allow meaningful new investment in the business. It seems sensible to me that we would give ourselves the flexibility to accelerate investment in to the development portfolio including liver and fetalcheck and/or in to additional sales resources. The alternative would be to delay these type of investments by 12 to 18 months until the cash flows allowed it.

While we still need to see the size and terms of the facility as this is HSBC they are likely to be sensible. I think this may well mark the transition of IUG from a start up to an established business.

Bamboo@ There are many positive qualities I like about IUG but one of the things that I like the me most is that they are always upgrading and adding functionality to their product range. For a small company with limited resources they do this incredibly well. I have no doubt if they get this product to market, some of the possible features you suggest and more will be added overtime.

There's a new 510(k) approval on the FDA website for the Voluson series. This one is for Signature 20 and Signature 18. The "Decision Summary" isn't available yet so you can't compare the changes to the previous machine. This is the first 510(k) for Signature series since January of 2022. Hopefully this will now mean IUG being offered across the complete Voluson range.

Intelligent Ultrasound's NeedleTrainer and ScanNav Anatomy Peripheral Nerve Block now part of NHS Scotland anaesthetist training program

PRESS RELEASE 29 February 2024: Intelligent Ultrasound Group plc (AIM: IUG), the 'classroom to clinic' ultrasound company specialising in AI software and simulation, is pleased to announce NHS Education for Scotland (NES) has incorporated the company's NeedleTrainer and ScanNav Anatomy Peripheral Nerve Block (PNB) in its anaesthesia training program.

Intelligent Ultrasound's Classroom to Clinic package is designed to meet the two key challenges of ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia (UGRA): capturing and interpreting ultrasound images and inserting the needle to deposit local anaesthetic at a target site. The risks of poorly performed UGRA and ultrasound-guided needle insertion are well documented, including damage to nerves that can lead to chronic pain, loss of sensation and muscle weakness. Poor identification of structures on ultrasound can lead to needle trauma to blood vessels, the lung, bowel and kidney.

NeedleTrainer uses a retractable needle and virtual image overlays to simulate needling non-invasively on a live participant, using an authentic live ultrasound scan. This enables trainees to develop hand-eye coordination, optimum positioning, and accuracy in ultrasound-guided interventional procedures in a realistic clinical environment with minimal risk.

ScanNav Anatomy PNB produces a colour overlay on real-time ultrasound to support scanning for UGRA. A recent study published in the British Journal of Anaesthesia showed that availability of ScanNav Anatomy PNB was associated with an increase in the number of blocks performed by anesthesiologists, without a decrease in quality of care.

As a teaching package, this provides increased efficiency, whereby education can be carried out in a cost-effective and scalable manner, with enhanced educational outcomes. The platforms will be used at the School of Medicine, University of St Andrews where Dr Alasdair Taylor and co-director Dr James Bowness will use NeedleTrainer as part of their two-day Regional Anaesthesia: Plan A Blocks course.

NES joins its counterpart body in Wales (Health Education and Improvement Wales), which invested in Intelligent Ultrasound platforms to help meet curriculum changes and provide more safe, effective learning opportunities in ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.

Stuart Gall, Chief Executive Officer of Intelligent Ultrasound: "Ultrasound-guided needle insertion is now a key competency requirement for multiple specialties. This investment moves us closer to our vision of transforming medical training, ensuring safer practices, and ultimately enhancing patient care. Together, we are bridging the gap from classroom to clinic with innovative solutions that empower medical professionals across Scotland and beyond."

Dr Ed Mellanby, Simulation Associate Postgraduate Dean for Scotland, said: "It is a huge challenge to consistently meet the requirements of training in regional anaesthesia in a safe and reliable way across all trainees in Scotland. We are developing a national approach to simulation training in Scotland, with the aim of sharing resources and expertise across the country in order to improve quality and equitability of access. This technology aligns with that ambition and with both patient and curriculum requirements. I am really excited to see how this can reduce the variability in practice and training, and witness the positive impact on performance that we believe this will produce."

Dr Alasdair Taylor, Consultant Anaesthetist, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, said: "As a team, we want to increase the delivery of safe and efficacious ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia to patients in Scotland as the potential benefits are well known. When performed well, patients benefit from reduced morbidity, improved pain scores, and a reduced opiate requirement and the consequent side effects. Organisations can benefit from greater theatre efficiency, and shorter length and cost of inpatient stay. Also, with the long-term aim of performing more awake regional anaesthesia, we can achieve a reduced carbon footprint for surgical procedures."

Intelligent Ultrasound launches portable NeedleTrainer Plus

PRESS RELEASE 9 February 2024: Intelligent Ultrasound Group plc (AIM: IUG), the 'classroom to clinic' ultrasound company specialising in AI software and simulation, is pleased to announce that it has launched a portable NeedleTrainer Plus ultrasound-guided needling training simulator.

Aimed at training ultrasound-guided needling in military field-based hospitals, as well as clinical networks outside major urban areas, the system is packed in a robust, portable pelicase complete with a GE HealthCare Vscan handheld ultrasound device.

NeedleTrainer is a first of its kind training simulator that uses a retractable needle and virtual image overlays to simulate needling on a live volunteer, using a live ultrasound scan. This enables trainees to develop hand-eye coordination, optimum positioning, and accuracy in ultrasound-guided interventional procedures in a realistic clinical environment with minimal risk.

The system is part of a portfolio that includes Intelligent Ultrasound's latest ScanNav™ Anatomy Peripheral Nerve Block, an AI technology that helps healthcare professionals to identify and label anatomy in live ultrasound images in preparation for ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia and analgesia. The AI software automatically highlights the anatomy associated with the most common peripheral nerve blocks.

Ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve block injections are increasingly used for pain relief after surgery and trauma. Data from a study published in the British Journal of Anaesthesia in September showed that, when ScanNav™ Anatomy PNB was available, there was a 40.4% relative increase in the number of peripheral nerve blocks used in trauma cases, without a decrease in quality of care.

Stuart Gall, CEO at Intelligent Ultrasound said:

"We hope this new version of NeedleTrainer will support clinicians in more remote areas and help to open up additional markets for our simulators and AI software in the US, UK and through our resellers around the world as we continue to grow our classroom-to-clinic business."

Where Prof Alison Noble goes, IUG goes ! A video from a couple of weeks ago where she provides an introduction to the work she has been doing recently, much of which can be mapped to some of the patents that have been filed over the last 18 months.

I have teed the video up to where she starts to speak, she was given an 8 min introduction but for IUG holders she needs no introduction.

Dear IR at IUG,

I write as a private investor holding IUG shares through a nominee account with Halifax SD.

I notice on a financial bulletin board today a post suggesting that the GEHC website has SonoLystlive appearing on Voluson Expert 20/22 as a standard product feature rather than an option.

Can you confirm this?

Will this potentially lead to greater sales income for IUG?

I look forward to hearing from you.

I have been following Sonio.ai for a while now. Very good company, in the few areas they overlap they are not really direct competitors and are at least @24 months to 36 months behind IUG and without an OEM deal in the near future they will fall further behind. That said they have a much broader product focus in women's health than we do and that has value. Business wise the off machine model when many/all of the OEMs offer products than can do the same/similar thing I think could be tough.

However, one of the areas where I think IUG Board and management have been very good over the years is to focus on commercial opportunity over what is technologically possible. Looking 12 to 24 months ahead, where I see the really big money is when we move in diagnosis. It is going to take additional cash to validate and to bring to market but we have a clear research advantage in liver disease (both cancer and cirrhosis). Here we may start to see the intersection with at home scanning as a monitoring tool ..... it is all mapped out in the academic research. This and similar will have the potenial for much higher licence fee income per indication than for the anatomy highlighting products. if successful just for liver it could be worth @ US$ 15 million to US$ 20 million per year to IUG, but all of that is for another day and not required to take us to 30p+ per share.
