Why would you need to stream Netflix in HD? It would be easier to stick a Netflix server on board and update on the ground?

... and Blackrock have announced they now hold above 5% after the fun and games yesterday.

This could get interesting over the next week or two.

The opposition have just had a successful launch;

The most powerful commercial broadband satellite ever built has just gone into orbit on an Ariane rocket
Not that you would know from the share price today as it bounces around 850p , presumably because of today's Qatar contract .

Any particular reason for today's stellar performance ?

(not that I'm complaining)

:o)

The analyst coverage is shocking, especially with regards to satcoms... Yes the technology is poor and expensive compared to terrestrial technology, but when you have no other option, your inmarsats of this world can charge what the like. I suspect the 3 year low coincides with the peak investment trough for deployment of their new system, once that's up, it should be gravy for the next 10 years...

johnpolonius - Actualy one tip I would give is read as much as you can, there is no shortage of books on investing, some better than others. Also teach yourself the basics of accounting, again there are plenty of books for all levels. Phil Oakley of Sharescope has just published a book which I've ordered, I'll be happy to post a view when I've read it.

johnpolonius - "If you had a single tip, would you advise?"

Sorry John those who know me say I'm the kiss of death with my tips haha so I'll not inflict them on you.

Seriously, I go back as far as Poseidon the one time Aussie miner (Gold or platinum or something) at the time lot of people were tipping it and I even heard one conversation in the pub but a wise old man told me 'never listen to what you hear in the pub', I didn't buy it and I know avoided lots of burnt fingers haha.

I wonder if AQR Capital are thinking of 'throwing the towel in'?
They have not increased their short for over a month, unusual for them.
The way it's going against them they may have to do something soon.
Possibly if the share price gets above 850.

Losos, thanks for that great answer. I am a beginner, though have had good luck so far, buying OTB and BOO, 6 months ago. If you had a single tip, would you advise? Or am I pushing my luck?

Let my trading stock go at 811 ; 5% in 2 weeks will pay the bills. Too good a stock to let my main holding go though.

johnpolonius - "what next by way of influencing factors?"

After more years than I care to reveal as a PI I don't bother asking that question anymore haha.

If you don't work for the company or have any relatives who do it's a dangerous game to try and guess the future.

The city analysts try, but as we've seen, they are no more accurate at predicting ISAT's future than you are haha.

I am a longterm investor, ISAT provide a vital service in this age, there are only a few others who can compete and it's rarely a direct technical equivalent. That said I'm holding for now.

Glad I hung on here. So we've had the recent update, and the successful launch, er...what next by way of influencing factors? :)

john it's all on the Inmarsat website. They already have 3 similar satellites in operation. "Inmarsat-5 F4 (I-5 F4) will boost the power of our award-winning Global Xpress network, which has been delivering seamless, high-speed broadband connectivity across the world since December 2015".

Launch window: 2320-0010 GMT (7:20-8:10 p.m. EDT)
Launch site: LC-39A, Kennedy Space Center, Florida
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the Inmarsat 5 F4 communications satellite for Inmarsat of London. Inmarsat 5 F4 will be the fourth satellite in Inmarsat’s Global Xpress network.

You can probably watch it live somewhere on the SpaceX or NASA websites if you want to stay up late.

Personally I have sold out here at the big opening gap up last week. I do not have much confidence in SpaceX.
