31/1/2011 14:05 | lbo, It doesn't look very "smart" to articles that are over a year old. 1 October, 2009. That's the past, do you have any more up to date commentary? | mcsean2164
28/1/2011 21:49 | INM not looking very "smart" as an investment with a couple of hundred million lost? O'Brien's business decisions have been usually shrewd yet his drive to acquire a shareholding in INM has cost him hundreds of millions of Euro. Since 2006 O'Brien has spent over 500 million buying shares in the firm. Aerl not good either | lbo

21/1/2011 21:45 | What's the general feeling from you few posters here...is this now worth a punt or is it going to be dead in the water with the ongoing recession and changes to the papers with regard to competition from the net etc. I've always regarded Denis O'Brian to be a very smart cookie. But can this be taken forward as a good share investment? tia | devil20

26/11/2010 10:37 | The most I know is they plan to pay down debt, so is the right way to look at this to try and calculate the value of the assets, if APN is sold? | nearlybroke2

03/11/2010 18:50 | Independent News & Media says it has raised 29.3m from a placing of more than 50 million new shares with institutional investors at a price of 58 cent. The company will use around 29m of the money raised to pay off most of a 36m loan facility put in place as part of the group's restructuring late last year. The loan facility has an interest rate of 25% a year, and Independent says there will be savings of around 7m a year as a result of the repayment. The group cut its recourse net debt to 543m by the end of June this year, and says there will be a further significant reduction by the end of this year. The new shares will represent just under 10% of the company and are being placed at a price slightly below yesterday's close of just over 60 cent. INM shares were down slightly at 59 cent in Dublin this afternoon. 25% interest!! | mcsean2164

11/10/2010 21:50 | INM is listed in the UK and Dublin like the other Irish companies that made declarations! The companies where directors have come forward all have dual listings of their stocks on the London Stock Exchange. The opinion of legal experts was that Irish companies did not have to show their cards, as their primary listings remained in Dublin. However, most cited "best practice" in corporate governance as they met the deadline. | lbo

11/10/2010 09:43 | ONLY if the mortgagee intends selling the security into the open market which is VERY unlikely as Im pretty sure in this case that one Denis O'Brien would be glad to acquire the strategically important block of voting shares. | bongo bwana
11/10/2010 09:26 | Is an overhang created when a major shareholder uses his shareholding as security for his/her borrowings? | knickers2
11/10/2010 09:25 | Did these loans with Anglo Irish bank secured on INM shares not have to be declared! Top executives declare loans secured by shares Flurry of announcements ahead of UK financial watchdog's deadline In 2004, Anglo Irish Bank agreed to lend 40 million to Waterford on condition that O'Reilly and Goulandris would repay the loan if certain conditions were not met. This loan is not due to be repaid until 2010 Waterford costs O'Reilly and Goulandris 544m | lbo

10/10/2010 20:40 | I wouldnt rely on the Irish version of the "Sunday Times" business section for anything. Its reportage on Irish publicly quoted firms is absymal and I for one reader will only return to it when the ST decides to give its Irish readers the quality coverage of UK based firms - something similar to the way the "Sunday Telegraph" respects its Irish based readers. | bongo bwana
10/10/2010 16:30 | Anyone here know anything about the Stock Market and how it works? I ask because of the very close attention the Sunday Times in Ireland is paying to the debts of Sir A. After ploughing 500m into WW, together with 30 grand of my meagre fortune, in the process, I wonder if offering his INDO shares as security for personal loans creates an "overhang" in the Indo shares? | knickers2
