I agree, when legalized means that the quality can be assured and therefore much safer and get some of the drug pushers and importers off the streets. Then I would bring in much tougher punishment for the higher classes of drugs.

I have advocated for years giving both IMB and BAT a license to sell, in plain white packets of 5 at £5 per packet, with a significant amount of the £5 being tax.

Have just spent an hour researching Pharmacielo, whose Chairman, Simon Langelier, was appointed to Imperial's board last year. The following are of interest:

- Pharmacielo produce cannabis in Colombia where production costs are 10% of those in North America
- They aim to be the world's no.1 supplier of medicinal grade cannabis
- Permabear Jim Rogers is an investor in the company
- The company may be preparing to list

It's early days but it's not inconceivable that Imps will buy a stake at some point and this could be transformative for both companies. As always, DYOR.

guys - the reason why your dividend share companies have been faring badly is very simple - these stocks have been seen as a proxy for treasuries for various hedge funds chasing yield. Now everyone seems to think inflation is back, and so are unwinding across the board (look at the treasuries market). This means there will be continued downward precious on these 'bond proxies' until that overhang is clear. Basically every time you hear something about inflation the price falls.

Note - this action has absolutely nothing to do with the profitability of these institutions. Meaning, if you can call the bottom of this action you can get a good trade I think.

Agree , an odd year so far with poor performances from BATS and IMB offset by gains from ECM, TSCO , GNK and GSK in my lot. Just about beating the indices with a 2.5% gain for the portfolio.... 7 months still to go, anything can happen :-)

EJ - indeed let's hope second half of year sees a sustained recovery in shareprice. Like yourself, when I first bought into Imperial back-end last year c3000p I thought I was getting a solid defensive at a knock down price (25% below peak) - alas no! Between Jan and April it went into a vicious downward spiral - during this time I've been topping up with multiple trades between 2325 & 2700p. In fact I bought more today at 2650p and it promptly dropped to 2615p before recovering slightly (maybe c2600p is support level). Most of us are in this for the eye watering divi and as tempting as it is I don't want to put too many more IMB eggs in my basket. I'm looking for a recovery to c3250p so I can offload shares purchased at 3000p as my bolt on trades have left me somewhat top heavy in this stock.

Just noticed FTSE100 closing tonight exactly where it closed on the last trading day of 2017.

FTSE250 +1.5% over the same period, IMB -15.6% , BATS -25.4%
