The recovery here is only just getting going in my view. Ok, I’m biased because I’m a shareholder. But the downward pressure on the price caused by the massive ESG related sell-off is over. Those same funds are looking at their current holdings in an environment where inflation is doing double digits and they’re all rethinking their ESG credentials. ESG will not protect them from inflation, IMB will.

That areshole Witty is calling for the government to ban all smoking now as a new report indicates it’s extreme and adverse effect on health and that savings by the NHS would be double the duty from cigarette sales? Is this still a free country or what?

What is causing the setback with BAT and to a lesser extent IMB today, tension ahead of Fed and BoE interest rate announcements or has there been some real news which I missed?

I believe the Kiev factory's back in almost full production since August and now making cigs for Philip Morris. For some reason they've not been able to export IMB's own brands (not sure why?) and, as PM's factory in Ukraine isn't producing, it's convenient for both companies to go down this route.

Tobacco giants help fund Putin's war machine with £7bn in taxesLondon-based British American Tobacco, Philip Morris International and Japan Tobacco International hold more than 90pc market share in Russia, meaning the three companies alone have contributed at least £6.3bn.But rival Imperial Brands is the only company so far that has actually sold its Russian operations. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/10/30/tobacco-giants-help-fund-putins-war-machine-7bn-taxes/

You missed out deleveraging of balance sheet, as the debt is paid down more money available for dividend increases and even more buybacks. This is a cash machine and we will be getting more and more over time.
