A good deal of recent share price weakness is a perception the market for new generation products
will tilt towards heat not burn.

IMB appear to estimate (outside of Japan) this will not be the case.

Re Nerudia

Imperial will announce the acquisition along with its full-year results on Tuesday, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified as the information is private.

FT Alphaville:

Imperial Brands is said to buy UK Vaping supplier Neruda

BE
That's per Bloomberg.

IMB management flagged up acquisitions at its recent capital markets day, if I remember correctly.
BE
Which the market took as "another year of transition" and promptly sold it off.
BE
And looks like Neruda is e-liquids rather than heat-not-burn, where Imperial has nothing.

BE
"Confidentiality is our top product," says its website, which is a slightly unsettling thing to boast about given the history of tobacco companies and their confidentiality policies.

@Action re: 'safe divi payer'. Ironic eh - I top-sliced some of my higher yield cyclical shares that'd had a good run to lock-in some gains with this 'safe-payer'. Since when it's only gone south.

If a correction is imminent, wouldn't IMB (in theory) be a good defensive play?

Palmer and Harvey situation probably isn't helping though it sounds close to a formal resolution with IMB having to rollover their loans

personally I think it is because less insti's want to own tobacco shares and smoking is no longer seen as the future, especially in the west. Vaping perhaps but IMB seem very behind on this compared to BATS. IMO only.

Just catching-up on some of the coverage of BATS Capital Markets Day yesterday. I saw this comment in the FT and I liked it. I thought I would share it here:

By Arthashastra

"Banning and restricting is a 1920’s idea of censorship that didn’t work. The poor downstairs looked in as the lords upstairs had their fun. It is where we are going with this moribund politics. Schwarzenegger built a tent outside the San Fransisco legislature to accommodate his love for cigars and to create a “positive environment where they can all be on an equal footing, as opposed to everyone going into the governor's office where he's behind his desk."

Anything positive takes time and cultural change rather than prescription."

Is it possible to check current UK market share data for vaping?.

Mention it as I see a lot of the BATS vype product but little of blu,
just my own experience.

5% yield with a further 10% per year increase yields 8% in five years. I know there is a lot of water to go under the bridge but if they stay rich in cash generation the share price will catch-up with that fact IMO. Increased my holding here too.
