Pottsey, do you work in HR? Sounds like the same BS fed to the 'works employees before they were sold.

Would this be the CEO who has just lost and upset his biggest customer and has put the business up for sale. Still no offers !

Such as all the extra benefits IMG put in place to make it worthwhile to stick around. I don't remember what they all are only that the CEO was talking about all the new incentives put in place to keep staff retention and how PowerVR engineer numbers have increased and the incentives have worked so far.

Being sold isn't always a bad thing and it can make your staff more secure. The fact is there are now more benefits for staff sticking around now then in the past.

Like ... putting themselves up for sale.
That'll make staff feel secure !

IMG have put in a number of systems and rewards to improve staff retention. It seems to be working as PowerVR engineers numbers have increased by 50. Yes it is a worry but IMG are aware of the possible problem and have taken steps against it.

Pottsey > "The new PowerVR design center is in Bristol a long way from the Apple building. I do not see many engineering talent wanting to relocate from Bristol to London."

IMG has design centres all over the world.

Their MAIN PowerVR design centre is in the KL headquarters, and Apple are not going to make such an obvious mistake of setting up their new GPU design centre anywhere else other than right next to where their target engineers work!

Apple are not stealing that many staff. The amount of PowerVR engineering talent at IMG has gone up not down. The new PowerVR design center is in Bristol a long way from the Apple building. I do not see many engineering talent wanting to relocate from Bristol to London.

Will there be an offer now?

Every potential bidder knows that Apple are determined to poach IMG's top PowerVR engineering talent.

Who on earth is going to bid for IMG in this scenario? They would be throwing their money away!

Apple have effectively killed any chance of a bid for IMG.

Eventually you may be grateful to get an offer of 35p !

At the height of the hype two weeks ago there was a 1 million share buy at £1.68 (on the Friday afternoon). How fund managers gamble with our pension funds eh !

I'm hanging on don't think it will go much lower - press latched onto old news - a case of buy whilst others are afraid? Big sellers have their own corporate reasons for doing so. Still think will go for a premium to this. Its hairy period hanging on for the first bid though, especially with Apple being aggressive.

Apple moving the London team to St Albans to make it easier to add ARM and IMG ex-employees was mentioned by Sheep Herder in 27114 on 5 April 2017. An office of 22,500 sq ft will accommodate about 225 people at the norm of 100 sq ft per person.
On the other hand, IMG have added 50 employees to the PowerVR team since restructuring, they have made employee retention payments and continue share based remuneration.

This past weeks chatter has highlighted to me that I suspect any bid that comes will not be greatly over where we are today. However I do think there is some downside risk involved if no deal is done. I'm happy to have gone 50p over where I considered selling post the AAPL news, a small victory, but one that I'll take. I have been invested since Videologic days, but there must come a time to call it a day and stop wasting energy, so sadly I have exited this morning. GLTA who continue, and I hope I'm wrong and the LONGS get 200p+ shortly!

JamesRowe: your Apple products have been manufactured by Asians who work 16 hour days, live in battery farms and see their families once a year.

The west is well aware of this, and has decided (I'm being a little flippant here) that it really doesn't much care.

Do you really think consumers will now say "What?! Apple didn't BUY IMG instead they poached the staff THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS I'LL NEVER BUY APPLE AGAIN".

I doubt a few IMG shareholders boycotting Apple products will overly concern them ;) I understand your indignation, but this is the way many business' both big and small work, sometimes even internally (against their own employees) or externally against their opposition or their partners

Apple are playing a dangerous game. In the modern world being viewed as not ethical by your potential customares can have a direct impact on the bottom line. A few big press stories about not being an ethical company can have a major impact on a company's image and sales which is hard to recover. It is a pity that IMG isn't staffed by furry animals!

nicandy > "I totally agree but how many of you will still go out & give them money by buying their products?"

Not me!

I have admired Apple for many years.

As well as owning many of their products, I have several books about the company that document them from their beginnings, with the technical brilliance of Steve Wozniak and the mercurial reality distortion field genius of Steve Jobs.

Well no more.

No more overpriced iProducts for me.

I know business can be a rough game, but this seriously oversteps the mark.

To cancel your contract with IMG, knowing that it jeopardises their viability, and to then setup a 22,500 sq ft office a stones throw away is way beyond acceptable.

What is our Government doing about this? One of Britain's top tech companies is being dismantled right in front of them, and they do absolutely squat!

No other country would stand by and let this happen.

Apple should have done the right thing, and simply bought IMG - they could easily afford it!

To do it this way is just a really sh*tty move from a really sh*tty company.

I feel very sorry for the engineers at IMG. What do they do - stay loyal to IMG knowing that it is on the way out, or go and get well paid and secure jobs with the top tech company in the world?

Whilst I would love them to tell Apple where to go, no doubt the reality of their situation will mean most will go to work for Apple.

I doubt this would have happened under Steve Jobs - he was by no means a perfect guy, but he did at least have a strong sense of right and wrong.

It takes someone who can't see past a spreadsheet, like Tim Cook, to not notice that this is fundamentally wrong.

Now IMG, the company that played such a pivotal role in making Apple the behemoth it has become, faces death by a thousand cuts, or however many engineers it takes to fill a 22,500 sq ft office.

What a sad and undeserved end to what was once a world leading British tech company.

I won't forgive or forget, and I'm sure many others won't too.

"Explain? What's going to happen? They're going to continue to sell millions upon millions of products perhaps? No one will care or even know who IMG are I'd guess."
Other company’s care. Now that Apple isn't protected by IMG patents companies will line up to start taking Apple to court. I can see Apple losing more money on court costs then the value of buying IMG. The infringement case(s) have already started and it wouldn't surprise me if they get worse for Apple.

Fishy there is some truth in that, the days of giant strides in phone /conputer/tablet technology improvments are coming to an end and I guess we will not see the same growth in share price for AAPL either. What all these behemoth companies are now hoping for is to splash huge amounts of money on new beginnings/ideas hoping that something will stick and become the next huge revenue driver. Only time will tell...
