Not sure IKA wants to share those costs as it’s likely the Fab Company would want a slice of any recurring revenue.

As to the cost, I wouldn’t even want to guess. That’s an email to the Ceo I reckon.

David how much do think the new high prototype rig will cost Ilika?
We were'nt shown the existing rig at the open day but I've seen pics of it.££*£££££££££££...
I would have been impressed if a fab company had committed to a joint cost risk share project showing faith in the tech and product...but don't share your enthusiasm sorry...the fab company says no!

Hornblower they will but pencil in 120p as they are currently awash with cash. 6 years development funds according to their most recent statement.

It looks like 60p is on the cards.
If I were them I'd have a rights issue to raise more cash for the future.

IKA feels like it is on the cusp of moving from preproduction development to rollout via third party production. That can be the transformative point for value creation.

It certainly was for ARM the semiconductor designer or Shire with its ADHD drug Adderall.

As to whether IKA has hit that critical point we will see shortly.

Now a revaluation based on this being an IP company is now on the cards.

Rogk, let's hope so
It was very quiet on the Stereax front at Cap mkts day..which did supprise me a bit as it's been a long time coming.
I think I came away with a very similar feeling to Hornblower...massive potential...but still a way to go.

All early stage growth companies are by their very nature risky...that comes with the territory and the potential for multi bagging...In the future, Ilika plans to focus on three main areas:Miniaturization: Create even smaller batteries that deliver smaller currents. The medical device industry has high demand for this type of battery. This niche area currently makes up 50% of the value of Ilika's licensing pipeline.Capacity: Increase the energy capacity to handle various functions. This demand is derived from the IoT industry because of the complex devices that will need to be powered. It makes up about 25% of the value of Ilika's licensing pipeline.Large Format: This is all about EVs. And very appropriately, the name of the battery is the Goliath. Ilika already has a decade-old partnership with Toyota, and because of its patents and leadership in the battery industry, other large auto manufacturers are interested in working with it, tooIlika is involved in a laundry list of partnerships ...the longest running one being with Toyota.

"Tool 1 is designed to deliver a 70x productivity increase relative to Ilika’s current pilot line capability. The tool has the longest lead time of the manufacturing equipment required for FAB implementation and is expected to be ready for delivery to Ilika for process development in Q4 2020".

Some might read this as a positive.

But after all the news of improvements in battery capacity and cost economics,
It seems to me there is still a way to go to prove this.

Do ARM buy/prove PCB making fab installation s for perspective licence customers?

Or am I missing something...it's Licence sales we're after....yes?

70 times what? I don't remember well but I have in mind that their prototype plant could produce one one or two wafers a week. How many on a wafer? can't remember that either.

Semefab were some 18 months ago the first fab partner to be mentioned, and
was my first question at the pre buffet at the Cap mkts open day.......how are things progressing with fab manufactuer??
we're still talking to them...I was told.

So now a 70x production efficiency fab process line to be procured by Ilika ?has now been announced.

Does this relate to why there has been no license take ups to date?
The Fab investment set up cost being the stumbling block..micro battery piece part cost was asked about briefly I remember...but the focus of the day was Goliath.....which as Hornblower has mentioned is some way off into the future..

Rogk,
Fair enough.
I've been investing long enough to know that a company's share price rarely has anything to do with it's current success but is more to do with the appearance of what success it might have down the road...with "appearance" being the operative word. Hence all the smoke and mirrors of PR.
My problem with Ilika is that its board has been big on blather and short on achieving what they blather about.
ITM had the same problems. Perhaps they have new directors?

Rogk,
Yes. There was a glass display case in the form of a table in the entrance hall.
It had a pouch on display. Whether it was a mock-up or an actual pouch I cannot say.

Ilika's Goliath project is basically to create a large-scale "solid state" Li-ion battery powerful enough to run a car.

The auto industry have given them the suitable size module (or pouch) that they should work to.

Their job is to find the optimum set of anode, cathode and electrolyte materials for the pouch to give the best results.

In my mind the questions regarding the Goliath project are as follows...

Can Ilika find an optimal solution?
If so, will it be sufficiently good to make a difference?
If a strong solution is found will it command strong IP?
If so, can Ilika profit from it?

We don't know the answer to any of these questions.
