erogenous jones: sure it is bonkers, but the collapse in share price is pretty well mirrorred on every equity. The danger of insolvency is slim based on the support that central banks are putting in place around the world. The efforts thus far are NOT to stimulate their economies but to ensure that there is an orderly market. Markets use maths to value companies based on future profits, dividends and cash generation. As the economic effect cannot be determined, so valuations are heaviliy and substantially discounted. Similarly markets can become overcooked as well as undershooting. I would expect there to be sufficient resource in the company to be able to take advantage of bargains that are created in this extraordinary year. Don't forget that the Chinese market is around 6-8 weeks ahead of the Western World in reacting to the virus. From peak to trough the A share market fell by 11% and is currently down by 9%. Sure, things may drop further as the world grinds to a halt, but China is beginning to get back to work and doubtless will hoover up new business where it cannot be fulfilled elsewhere. I'm sweating this out. It is not nice being the equivalent of 20 years salary down in a matter of a few weeks, but there is hysteria on social media that spreads fear and panic with alarming rapidity.
podgyted: FWIW. 10/5/17 Share price 828, Price to Book Value 1.50 1/5/18 share price 941, PBV 1.45 29/4/19 share price 1081 , PBV 1.40 From Stocko (stored pages). So not out of sync historically, the collapse around the end of last year probably makes the current share price seem higher than it is.
truffle: Not sure precisely what the low was during the past 2 months, but the share price has risen approx. 25% since then!
jerseyman1: Agreed Truffle. Can't fathom the short term share price when everything longer term looks good
dplewis1: It's been a long road back. When Borrows took over the share price was around 1.70, quite a turnaround and they've ridden the global recovery spectacularly well. This was 12 quid back in 2007 I don't see why that can't be achieved again.
zmar90: Barclays won't let me buy shares in 3i [even though i already hold them in my account] as new EU regulations require them to have a KID document available for me to read - 3i have not supplied the document, so i can't buy!!! Can anyone one on a different platform check and see if they have the same problem [this must be affecting the share price if PI's can't buy them]and / or if you are with Barclays you might want to see if they are telling me the truth thanks for any info
erogenous jones: I inferred in my reading of the first that in discussing a potential disposal the underlying assets need to be augmented and thus a natural augmentation of the current share price. The second although a few days older did not necessarily have this information., Putting the 2 separate things together there is no need for a broker upgrade as I shall assume that their clients can read. As there is no compelling basis to sell, I would imagine that analysts are starting to lick their pencils at the moment to brief their sales teams. Top slicing might start to be made - and very difficult to discover as so many trades these days are done by bots.
chc15: True, buy I'm going purely on trading in the last month, huge institutional buying to take the share price to £9 - they won't be selling just yet..
hooley: Blackrock like 'em - they bought another 9m last week. Private equity firms are set to do well at this point in the market cycle? Big jump in divi and looking forward to more this year. Share price reached 2100p back in 2000!
a0148009: This has been under the radar screen 60% rise since start of year, seems no interest on this BB, share price well above last published NAV but company have had a substantial review of business and at 31 March 2013 manages 9.2 billion funds from third parties as well as their own asset base.
