Sphere - I'll tell you a company with a less reliable platform than IG - Hargreaves Landsdown. Half the time the platform is up they can't even make a price for a company that isn't in the FTSE250 of SP500 its pathetic. Even Tradingview stopped working in Wednesday and that's just displaying data. Spreadex did stay up OK during the carnage but that'll be because of a lower number of users.

Chess from what I am reading the immediate threat is liquidity for Robinhood. Market makers are upping their margin requirements for counterparty risk. According to the FT this morning they had to raise $1 billion equity plus drew down on some banking facilities this week. Interesting times.

In the worst case TT goes bust and the IG share price recovers, lol.

I remember reading before that IG doesn't hedge completely, so takes some risks with some positions or markets as the counterparty to its clients positions.Anyone know if they're impacting by GameStop?Presume there's been huge activity, not sure if IG has successfully hedged.

Growth, there's an even simpler explanation - wishful thinking. IGG what see something that's not there.

because they are desperate for growth and are idiots. most managers are no different to private investors who buy at the top and sell at the bottom. they are not a different race or breed. they are humans - who make the same mistakes over and over again.

Why would IGG management buy tastytrade if it devalues the company?

IG

"Issues accessing the platform"

Look at my posts above on IG whenever there is abit of volatility (crypto is getting clobbered), platform falls down. Same again.

Can't transact now either.

It's nonsense.

I've set a stop loss with Hargreaves at 750p, didn't think would get so close to this in the space of a week, looks like I could be out sooner than I thought.

Thought there would be some new broker ratings , Doesn't seem to be any support , resistance showing, my guess is could go down to 700p in next few days after Diviedent.

coxsmn the 5% growth in profit is misleading as the 2019 results include $12.9m gain for a disposal which distorts the figures. Strip that out and the pre tax profit is 2018 $18.8m 2019 $33.6m 2020 $49m - 2020 up by 46%

Bought at 7.82

Thoughts on valuation: if IGG had instead of buying Tastytrade bought a can of tomatoes from Sainsburys (ie worthless) you might expect a share price fall of 16% for the new shares issued and 4% for the cash consideration.

Based on an expected share price post excellent results of 9,00 (conservative) that gives a theoretical share price of 7,20 post acquisitiono of a can of tomatoes. Tastytrade may not be worth a billion dollars but it sure is worth more than a can of tomatoes.

7,80 seems like an excellent mid to long term entry point. They will probably be a FTSE 100 candidate in June post closure which could provide support or even impetus while we await the full year results, which are unlikely to be bad since we are all at home trading and posting on these threads. :)

Just my tuppence worth.

Was expecting a rise because of the forthcoming Diviedent, but seems to be going in the opposite direction, wonder when the share price will show any signs of recovery.

Just surprising that institutional shareholders can let IG Group spend US$1 billion on an acquisition with such limited disclosure of the target company.

A few slides added on Tastytrade in the recent interims results; what are the quality of revenues / earnings ?

Hard to tell.

2020 revenues of $116.2m but how is that derived ? % from Tastyworks, the brokerage - don't know. Does the financial media / video side make revenue - if so how. For such a major change in the business of IG Group and at a cost of US$1 billion, there's not much detail in my view.

Yes, looks like you are right Dennis, I jumped to that conclusion from the quantity (%) of shares being issued, but I guess the fact that they are being issued to a few people only, and not to the public, would make the issue exempt from requirements for a prospectus. Thanks for pointing that out.

dennislevine,
I keep slaughtering goats and lighting candles to conjure an activist institution.
I dance around fires chanting June Felix is a pillock.
It ain't gonna work is it!
