Tony...I was simply (trying) to say just let the market take its course. I (personally) prefer to see cash spent on re-investment in a company of this size.This subject can often be a contentious one with holders but there are arguments to be maid for any direction of travel.

How would that work - investors buying back the shares?

The usual procedure is the Company buying from cash and then cancelling them free from the register.

Rockrose performed a buyback of 20% of their shares to enable institutions to exit at a favourable share price .... just a bit before Rockrose bought Marathons North Sea assets which caused the RRE share price to triple.

So if truly transformational (really moving the needle!) news is upcoming then I am a fan of buybacks :)

Buybacks can be a way for IIs to reduce/ exit without trashing the share price A placing in reverse.

I was enjoying it until they "liked" the idea of share buybacks. I'd far rather they used "surplus" capital to drill more wells with oil and gas prices at these levels. If not, then add it to the dividend.

Maybe if they announced they were planning to do it, and then maybe nibbled a few back it would be OK. But in terms of adding to shareholder value, experience over the years has suggested share buybacks don't make any difference.

My experience similar tournesol. Lost about £170k in a string of companies. Despite my best efforts. It was like betting on red and getting black every time. Finally, had back-to-back winners in the last year and although a monogamous investor, feel happy to continue here for a good while. Made all my losses back as things stand at te mo, but I do have a truckload of these.
After i3e I’m investing in broad funds. Not so much fun, but steady returns.

I didn't lose 80k here but I lost a painful amount. And around the same time I suffered several other equally painful losses. It was like everything that could go wrong did go wrong all at the same time. I had a really bad year that year. The moral is not to be over-exposed to any one co or any one sector. And not to be unlucky. Fortunately this year is doing very nicely thank you.

Yes I count myself as lucky not to have bought in there. My best friend had a few and it was also his Nap selection for the year for a fantasy competition that we have. Always risky these drills even when there decent the market can still take the price down. Better to pay a bit more after the drill bit has hit the paydirt.
