Of course the projected costs for this year are disappointing, but Yanfolila is still very profitable and they have the realistic prospect of tripling their production in the next few years. Even Dugbe may start producing in 2023 according to Ian Stalker.

Covid difficulties are likely to persist throughout the year, but at least they're still in operation which is more than can be said for many businesses and some mines.

Dugbe must be viable as it stands, we're just waiting/hoping for the icing on the cake in the form of 'an additional 2m oz' (IStalker), Feasibility Study and potential bids from 3rd parties as IS suggests is possible for a 5/6m oz resource.

I don't put that much informational value in the figures that are proposed by brokers. What I find useful is the context and if the estimates I come up with vary by a lot then I try to find out why.

I quite like reading the research papers, but again they can overthink things a bit.

I get my gold price from here:

And it has just popped back over USD1.8K. I am expecting a higher inflation environment than we have been having as we come out of lockdown. Hence I see an argument for hedges against inflation. (eg gold).

In the case of Hummingbird I think both of the brokers that cover it have some form of commercial relationship with the company, but it does not stop their analysis being useful. These are generally declared on the reports.

Only two covering it though one of which is probably the house broker so only limited value. I do think it's a buy at sub 25 though.

Thanks for that, johnhemming. I confess I was looking for a minimum of 50p a year from now. It could still happen but it all depends on this year's 4th qtr, progress on Kouroussa and Dugbe, drilling results and, as always, the gold price. Lots to keep an eye on.

Chipperfrd, I was aware of that, but am assuming success at Dugbe. Failure would be like pouring water on a drowning man.

Analysts at Berenberg slashed their target price on Hummingbird Resources from 62p to 39p on Thursday following the group's fourth-quarter production miss.

Hummingbird has released fourth-quarter production of 22,000 from its Yanfolila mine in Mali, taking production for the year to 101,000 and missing consensus estimates of 25,700 ounces and 105,000, respectively.

Gold sold during the quarter was 24.2m ounces at an average received price of $1,862 per ounce but weaker production drove up all-in sustaining costs for the quarter to USD1,496/oz, above our expectation of USD1,162/oz.

They also noted that tonnes processed in the fourth quarter were in line at 359,000 but with a miss on grade at 2.03 grams per tonne, versus 2.5g, caused by grade reconciliation issues.

As a result of the update, Berenberg retained a 'buy' recommendation on the stock despite Hummingbird facing both operational challenges associated with its Yanfolila site and logistical issues in Mali following the coup in August.

"The key upcoming catalysts should be delivering on guidance at Yanfolila and delivering on the permitting and financing package for the new Kouroussa project in Guinea that could double group production," added Berenberg.

avesome1968 Yes you were. As you know the market runs on fear and greed. DB is an ex. stockbroker I hear and he knows that when the share price deteriorates, all he needs to do is a couple of pod casts/interviews and investors will be suckered in to buy on the drop. A "good buying opportunity" with a stock like this never works because the problem now is, that as soon as the share price does manage to struggle N by a few pips, smart investors will sell because they know it won't last. share price drops like a rock again.

ednumdmorrison4 I also bought Chinese car giant Nio at $2.00 a year ago, today it is nearly $60. IMO the Ceo here has had his bite of the cherry. If he couldn't turn this share price around when gold was over $2,000, he certainly isn't going to do it now. There is way to much subterfuge with this company.

Investors/Broker predictions were 60p here three years. Some predictions were a 10 bagger soon. Really? Can't see this ever reaching 60 p let alone a 10 bagger. Take a look at Marathon gold and I also know Azerbaijan well, I suggested Anglo Asian Mining on here several years ago. Of the two, I prefer Marathon.
