May attempt to close the gap up from Friday. That could be a good point to put a cheeky buy order in - around 472 or so. May not break down through 480 though.

Very nice new high. May well breach that 500p level soon on this strength. Onwards and upwards. Just need a few good media pieces on HWDN to take us well into the 500p area.

Would be nice to see the 540p target breached and then some as per TL&TS&TT's (could have picked a shorter user name!)600p "easy" target. Will be interesting to see just how "easy" that target is! Hopefully once the politics is out the way and the uncertainty has gone we can move on in an upward direction.

Also I would like to see HWDNs make quality acquisitions rather than special divis. So long as they buy companies that are profitable and preferably with low debt. in fact they could buy a company that would be a brilliant business if it wasn't for a debt burden. Pay off the debt and that could release tonnes of earnings. blah blah blah All I know is HWDNs are in the driving seat.

Hi Thorpe £6 easy peasy Just think of the extra profit when/if Howdens increases it product offer.. Plumbing electrics etc. Also half the current stores are still growing towards their 7 year optimum local market penetration. Plus growing presence in Europe Plus the new huge warehouse distribution centre they are hoping to obtain planning permission for. massive economies of scale. Plus share buy backs Cash pile growing daily Customers are finding it easier as time goes along to make purchases from catalogues and the internet rather than inspection of every purchase in person. The business model of serving local builders that serve local customers needs will never change. I don't want to sound like a rampy roo but I see Howdens trading happily and deservedly on the ftse100 one day. GLH

I've interpreted that rather low key RNS and placed a note in my spreadsheet as follows:- "Continuing to out-perform on a ROCE basis almost every other stock of any size in the entire index. Warrants a high PER. Worth at least £5.53...will probably be worth a lot more by the time it actually gets there. Difficult to find companies of this quality, not beyond acquisition target by any stretch. Given EV / PBT compared to TRK is cheap. HWDN also has bigger barrier to entry; better growth prospects; USP and lack of competition in real terms". I think £6 long term.

looks very strong and no hint of any knock on from slower housing mkt - sales up 9%, much like the 9.9% at the start of the year. Strong 7% l4l growth on top of strong l4l growth this time last year of 8.5%. Looks very good to me imo. CR

dlku, every Howdens depot telemarkets their own customer base. I've bought 10+ kitchens in the last 5 years from the company because of my business and I used to get a marketing call every 6 weeks or so to try and flog me another kitchen. A bit irritating as a customer as they are constantly chasing new business but as a shareholder I love the fact that they are always on on the front foot being pro-active. The competition, whether Benchmark (Travis), Wickes, Magnet, etc for builders £'s aren't even close to HWDN in the quality of their marketing & sales support. Don't take a phone call as any sign of desperation. Its how they grow their business.
