14/1/2013 06:51 | RE the gift vouchers, people had been saving hundreds of pounds on a regular basis so they could buy a camera from Jessops - someone had £700 in vouchers. Ouch! People do not price or mis-price in counter party risk associated with them. | notanewmember2
13/1/2013 23:51 | Nothing significant in the weekend papers? Nothing is ever as it seems in these matters. Will it be a quick kill or a tortuous run down to administration or are there some other games afoot? I wonder how the online sales are going... | jimrclark
13/1/2013 21:01 | I reckon about Wednesday plug pulled, seems to alway be mid week on these things. | montyhedge
13/1/2013 19:39 | No warning to the gift voucher bearers, who are unsecured creditors. Absolutlely disgraceful. A change in the law is needed to force insolvent outfits to warn voucher bearers to redeem them before they are not honoured. I'll give it 3 weeks, although the equity is effectively worthless, so that timescale ain't very important for holders. How sad, yet how refreshing that outfits like B&M Bargains, Poundworld & Ors go from strength to strength. Only a matter of time before Halfords succumbs. | festering pustule
13/1/2013 18:47 | Went into hmv store in picaddilly circus near trocadero and there're lots of 25% off bargain hunters. The queue at till gets serve within 5 mins. It tends to be busier at the week-ends ... not sure when it comes to weekdays. | win168
13/1/2013 15:53 | Went into HMV today, plenty of browsers, no one at the till. I hope they survive but I expect news this week coming that's it all over. | montyhedge
13/1/2013 15:11 | It's a terrible shame what's happened. Looks like people will have a few days to get out before shareholders have nothing left. | grittar
13/1/2013 14:31 | "Would have thought shares in HMV will be suspended this week" I would have thought that the next announcement will be terminal, but not to worry as Everything Everything are doing a live signing at a HMV store. These signings and exclusive tin cases will save HMV, mark my words. ;-) | graham2405
13/1/2013 13:11 | Would have thought shares in HMV will be suspended this week | grittar
13/1/2013 11:05 | Everything Everything will be playing live and signing copies of their new album 'Arc' hmv 90 Market St, Manchester - Mon 14 Jan at 5.30pm | totally banjo
13/1/2013 10:09 | Pans Labyrinth......... HMV Bluray £8.00 Amazon Bluray £8.00 We have a price match How HMV can do this, run over two hundred stores, make an operating profit, let alone service the debt? Competing with Amazon on price will never work unless they can compete with Amazon on costs. This sale may do one thing, buy them more time, just like the sale of Waterstones did, just as the last two deals with the banks did, just as the deal with the suppliers did, and just as the sale of the Apollo did. BUT, none of them have made any difference to the final outcome, they are still losing sales and losing money. A quote from the master...... "Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks" Warren Buffett All IMHO | graham2405
12/1/2013 21:07 | Banjo, The last time I dropped in I though you would see the share price rise, it did if you remember, and profits were made. Well guess what,I expect to be back and looking to go long sometime on Monday as I expect to see it spike in the coming week. LL | lady liz
12/1/2013 19:50 | Wouldnt want to be in over the weekend. | peterboroughmatt
12/1/2013 19:48 | was in HMV today - still not shifting stock even with huge discounts - plc is almost dead methinks. | killieboy
12/1/2013 11:24 | Jon Copestake, retail analyst at the Economist Intelligence Unit, said: "Although HMV have been swift to play down any significance of this 25pc-off sale, the timing and background of the announcement will certainly raise eyebrows." | loganair
12/1/2013 11:20 | I think what is happening is two fold: 1). People just day trading. 2). The mm's holding up the price so some one like Henderson can continue to reduce their holdings while at the same time bringing in the sucker small private share holder thinking they're getting HMV on the cheap. Trading is starting to act like what happened with Game, during their last couple of weeks trading volume increased until at the end 50% to 100% of the number of shares in issue were being traded. Yesterday over 30mln HMV shares were traded, one of the highest volume days HMV has ever had. | loganair
12/1/2013 08:17 | "You will be pleased graham. I gave up at 1.3p. Horrible." Better 1.3p than nothing. Simply put, avoid companies with very strong competition. especially those with huge debts and no profits. Even more so, avoid companies whose main product line has been replaced by new technology. Retailers especially, as it is very expensive for them to exit leases and downsize as sales decline. Deepvalue, I hope you have better luck elsewhere, and take note of the above sentences..... ;-) | graham2405
12/1/2013 08:11 | "It's an exclusive hmv steelbook" Wow, so the same movie in a tin rather than a plastic case.... Praise the lord HMV is saved. | graham2405
11/1/2013 23:26 | Yeah - sadly, looks like January is its last month of trading as HMV as we know it. HMV just to become an online entity. | eisler
11/1/2013 22:46 | All but shut. Too many High St retailers been through serial admins over last 4/5 years, nobody believed the High St would ever be deserted, but let's face it - it is time High Sts were re-developed for non-retail purposes. | festering pustule |
