Yes folks, the promotional drivel is back......

Lego releasing a game....... ta da
EA on a tour...... ta da
...and 7 Digital one of the non-profit organisations that HMV has a minority stake in..... ta da

non-profit, that gives me an idea!

Why don't HMV apply for charitable status, no tax, lower business rates, all profits go to charity (well they don't make any at the moment, but thats a minor issue).

Well, it would keep them on the high street, suppliers would be happy, staff would be happy, banks might even be happy.

Easy, just delist and come back as a charity.......it could work.

Have HMV paid the rents due on Xmas Day?

Admin beckons, I'd be 99% certain. Their pop-up stores look like desperate attempts to flog their suppliers' stock, at their behest.

Who next? Well, T K Maxx have less stock than Jessop's, which is a frightening scenario, to say that they price so keenly; all down to margins, innit?

More choice for wireless noise: Sonos HiFi System owners can now stream music via 7digital
Robin Wauters
9 January 2013

Proud owners of Sonos' rather gorgeous wireless HiFi systems were already able to stream music from a variety of cloud-based services, including Spotify, Rdio, MOG, Pandora and Deezer, but the start of the new year brings even more goodies.

Open digital music platform company 7digital today announced a partnership with Sonos that will allow streaming of digital music tracks and albums through the latter's range of HiFi systems.

The service is available in a bunch of European countries, including Germany, UK, France and Spain, as well as the United States. According to 7digital, support for additional territories is 'on the horizon'.

All music that was purchased through 7digital's Web store or mobile apps can automatically be synced with a user's cloud locker, enabling him or her to instantly stream tracks and albums on any Sonos system.

7digital claims a catalogue of over 22 million tracks.

Sonos says it isn't done partnering with content providers just yet, either. In fact, Kristen Bender, Senior Product Manager, Music for Sonos says the company strives to stream "all the music on earth in the format a customer wants".

For 7digital, the news follows on the heels of other announcements related to partnerships with connected device manufacturers.

Today, 7digital music apps are available on smartphones and tablets from Samsung, RIM and HTC, Windows Phone mobiles, Windows 8 desktops, laptops and tablets, TVs and Pioneer in-car stereos.

Play.com to cease retail business

More on the story the onesamurai posted earlier:

Home delivery games retailer Play.com will close operations in March, the company has confirmed.

The corporation will no longer trade games, DVD, CDs or various other goods directly from March onwards. However, the company will remain as a marketplace service, much like Amazon or eBay, that allows customers and indie retailers to sell content through the Play.com website.

Some 147 workers will lose their jobs at the company's Jersey facility, with another 67 going from its Cambridge and Bristol offices.

The Play.com business was thrown into disarray last year when it was ruled that the tax loopholes it was enjoying should be closed.

The Low Value Consignment Relief - which allowed Jersey-based businesses to sell items less than £15 into the UK without paying VAT - closed down in April 2012.

"Moving forward we are intending to focus exclusively on our successful marketplace, which is our main business area, and to phase out the direct retail part of our business," the company said in a statement.

LOL one of Shri 9's last posts on the iii bb in March was about big Meatloaf doing album signing at hmv Oxford Street. LOL One for loganair and his "friend" 2 out of 3 aint bad

Jessops is very much like HMV. Both have limited product ranges whose retail price falls each year whilst fixed costs rise. Against this competition is fierce. I shall be very sad to see HMV go bust but at least it looks as though one company is buying up the debt in a bid to keep it going.

Henderson is a reduction of 1.01% since their 18th December reduction when they reduced their holdings by 1.09%. Their CFD position has remained the same.

I posted on this thread a few weeks back, that a friend of mine who knows about the retailers mentioned to me that 2 or 3 well known named high street retailers will go bust in the first three months of 2013, at least one being in the New Year and is why I finally sold my remaining shares in HMV.

I still call the 9th of January being in the New Year period, so so far he's been correct. I wonder who the other 1 or 2 may be???

He also said that a good number of retailers who manage to survive this down turn will be so weakened that they will surcome to the next down turn in 2019/2020.

HMV is next, to me its odds on, they were selling reduced box sets, then buy 1 get 1 half price, crazy margins must of been zero. To me its an orderly wind down for HMV, hope they survive, I buy the odd dvd from them.

So Jessops is going into Admin, and what HMV staff were former directors of Jessops?

"There was speculation last year that suppliers such as Canon were considering injecting cash into Jessops to help prop the business up, but no deal materialised.

"Last year it also lost two key executives, chairman David Adams and chief executive Trevor Moore - who joined HMV."

Moore and Adams, bought in to save Jessops.....?

Bought in to save HMV.....?

Lets hope they have more luck, eh Banjo.

clocktower, not just the CEO Trevor Moore, the former Jessops Chairman David Adams was first out of Jessops and first into HMV.

I had assumed that David was in some way responsible for the appoinment of Trevor.

I'm not a great believer in coincidences

All IMHO

Jessops spent a lot improving stores but clearly to no avail it would seem from the above report if true. Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire here at HMV as far as the CEO goes.
