HGM solid today. Leaving behind many of its peers.

Not long to H1 results, divi and end of silly season. Tick tock.

etfs all low in gold etc- just hold and wait for the turn. Like all things, we can best guess but will always be mere spectators and behind the decision curve- for example the hgm drop a couple of weeks ago was just a foresight of what is happening now with gold

$HUI gold bug index at lowest since 1st February 2016, when gold price was $1131/oz - suggests to me that gold miners are still oversold compared to the actual gold price, or conversely that a drop down to $1130/oz has already been built in....

Would explain why after several months of losses miners like HGM are holding up well (even gaining a little today!)

Based on what? Ive posted my rationale many times while it will get weaker- i always work on predictions within the next 6 months.

Yep Monty, did a nice X50 short on it and just lost my bottle and bailed on the normal increase before USA opens- these trades help towards offsetting the HGM portfolio of my portfolio! This stock will rise as mentioned by Casual47- keep the faith.

A low POG separates the boys from the men in the gold mining sector. An outfit like HGM with the fundamentals it has is bound to stand out from the crowd - especially with the cashflow, low costs and super friendly dividend (which doesn't depend on the dollar rate).

Also impressive that the share price has bounced back +2% from today's low of 129p despite gold continuing to fall according to the 24hr chart above.

Not tanking, just doing what it's been doing over the pat few weeks- been trade tensions, Iran, now Turkey holding it back plus the summer season, plus the almighty GREEN USD- am amazed it's staying this high- this bodes very well indeed. As I've been saying for a while... patience...

THE boss of Randgold Resources has said the miner is on the hunt for acquisitions as smaller rivals struggle.Mark Bristow said the "flat" gold price had put pressure on companies to find financing to develop their assets."We've signalled we're looking [for deals]," he said. "We've got the balance sheet and we've got the skills. We might be able to pick out some opportunities."The chief executive of London's biggest gold miner added that it was eyeing companies with only one asset that could be sitting on top-class "tier-one" mines and were ripe for consolidation.

Hi Woody
Saw that dip to 128p but only lasted 'bout 20 mins and better half was hogging the computer - promised myself to catch the next dip. Sold IMB for 27% profit or 4 x annual divi but may return. Good to hear from you.

I'm on holiday most of the time lately, Fizzy. Glad you've joined us. I bought some more a week or so ago at 128p - so bringing my average down from the mid 130's. Got a lot of large divis paying out imminently, so may buy more. Back into STOB today too - that looks like yielding about 8% at todays price, btw.

Maiden purchase at 130p and (hopefully) 8% yield. Woodhawk are you on holiday?

Just come across this article in the guardian which suggest a consolidation of 6-8 Russian gold mines may be on the cards. Does anyone have any views or knowledge on how it may effect our holding ? https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/aug/09/revealed-detail-of-exclusive-russian-deal-offered-to-arron-banks-in-brexit-run-up
